The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) foiled a suicide attack in the southeastern Deir Ezzor countryside on April 7, according to the Hawar News Agency (ANHA).

The Kurdish news agency said that a suicide bomber of ISIS attempted to blow himself up in a checkpoint of the SDF near the town of al-Hissan. However, security forces prevented the suicide bomber from reaching the checkpoint, which forced him to detonate his explosive belt in an empty area causing no loses at all.

“Security forces noticed the movement of the mercenary, who was wearing an explosive belt, and were able to stop him,” a security officer in the SDF told ANHA.

ISIS cells have intensified their attacks recently. In their most recent attack, two fighters of the SDF were killed near the town Khasham in southeastern Deir Ezzor.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said in a new report that 27 people, including 80 civilians, were killed by ISIS cells in northeastern Syria in the last nine months. This number will likely continue to raise.

The SDF’s security forces, backed up by the US-led coalition, are carrying out security operations in their areas on a regular basis. However, such measures will likely remain ineffective as long as the Kurdish-dominated group continues making decisions antagonizing the local Arab population.
