The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have imposed control of the last ISIS positions north of the town of al-Baghuz in the Middle Euphrates River Valley, the Kurdish Hawar News Agency (ANHA) reported late on March 20.
ANHA’s reporter said that some fighters of the terrorist group are still hiding near the hill of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani. However, US-backed forces are chasing them.
“The combing operations against the mercenaries continue around the hill of al-Baghuz,’ the reporter added.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) confirmed that the SDF has reached the eastern bank of the Euphrates River after capturing the entire terrorist group territory. However, it also said that some ISIS fighters are still hiding in trenches and tunnels north of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani.
The US-led coalition and the SDF will likely announce the complete defeat of ISIS in the Euphrates Valley once all the remaining terrorists are captured or killed. This could happen in the upcoming few hours.
