On September 23, heavy clashes erupted between the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and ISIS in the vicinity of the town of al-Shajlah, which is located 1km north of the newly liberated town of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani.
The SDF media center said that US-led coalition warplanes supported SDF fighters and carried out two airstrikes on positions of the terrorist group around al-Shajlah. At least 10 ISIS fighters were killed as a result of the clashes and the airstrikes.
Few hours earlier, US-backed forces advance 1km towards the town of al-Susah, north of al-Shajlah, and established new positions around al-Baghuz al-Fawqani following clashes with ISIS. According to the SDF media center, 11 terrorists were killed and 3 vehicles were destroyed.
The SDF is expected to launch a ground attack on al-Susah in the upcoming few days. Once the town is captured, most of ISIS elements will be trapped inside a narrow strip of land between the towns of Hajin and al-Sha’fah.
