The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) opened a crossing with ISIS’ pocket along the eastern bank of the Euphrates River in the southern Deir Ezzor countryside, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on August 3.

According to the UK-based monitoring group, thousands of civilians have left ISIS pocket through the crossing towards camps in the SDF-held areas so far. Several injured civilians and fighters of ISIS were also evacuated towards hospitals in the SDF-held areas.

Hours after the opening of the crossing, the SDF allowed more than 40 trucks carrying food and different supplies to enter ISIS’ pocket.

These developments may be a part of a secret deal between the terrorist group and the SDF. Previously, the two sides reached similar agreements in the cities of Manbij, al-Tabqah and al-Raqqa.

Over the last two months, several sources reported that US-backed forces are preparing to launch a large-scale offensive on ISIS’ pocket along the eastern bank of the Euphrates River. Evacuating the civilians and even some fighters of ISIS will for sure make such operation easier.
