On October 12, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that their fighters repelled a large-scale ISIS attack on their positions around the towns of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani, Hajin and al-Bahrah in the southeastern Deir Ezzor countryside.
“Our forces repelled all terrorists’ attacks, killing and injuring dozens of them, while the others fled,” the SDF said in a press release.
US-led coalition warplanes backed the SDF and conducted 8 airstrikes on vehicles and gatherings of the terrorist group. Furthermore, the coalition M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) launched 29 heavy rockets at ISIS positions.
According to the SDF media center, US-backed fighters killed 34 terrorists and destroyed three vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs) of ISIS during the clashes around the three towns.
The terrorist group launched several counter-attacks in the last few weeks in order to slow down the SDF advance. However, this strategy is draining ISIS, which has lost more than 285 fighters and commanders since the beginning of US-backed forces operation in the Euphrates Valley.
