Carrier strike group (CSG) is an operational formation of the United States Navy. It is centered on an aircraft carrier and a carrier air wing (CVW) of 65 to 70 aircrafts. It’s composed of roughly 7,500 personnel, an aircraft carrier, at least one cruiser, a destroyer squadron of at least two destroyers and/or frigates. A carrier strike group also, on occasion, includes submarines, attached logistics ships and a supply ship. Carrier strike groups comprise a principal element of U.S. power projection over the world’s oceans.
This always amazes me, we have 10 carriers, people in the U.S. are convinced we need something like 12 and we have 7 sitting on the east and west coast. Even for power projection and needing to keep a couple of ‘spares’ I don’t see why we need more than 6.

Unemployment has never been higher, prices, inflation, morally decaying culture, majority of games and movies suck anymore with a few gems here and there, and dont even get me started on healthcare. True, the average Russian may not be as well off as the avg american but at least they know their country is on the right side of history with a smart, brave leader.

Well you want at least three deployed Pacific, Gulf and Med.
You have three that just came off deployment undergoing maintenance (this is not a 30 minutes oil change think year or better)
You have three preparing to go out having just come off maintenance doing local training etc.
Now consider every couple of those maintenance rounds is two years or more for bigger overhauls then at the 20 year point or so you have to completely replace the nuclear drive along with complete overhaul and upgrade of systems think 4 to 5 year process.
12 gives you wiggle room and 10 as you can see cuts it too close if cycles don’t line up right.

The most important thing is that we 18 Ohio Class submarines. They carry most of Americas nuclear missiles and warheads.
