Carrier strike group (CSG) is an operational formation of the United States Navy. It is centered on an aircraft carrier and a carrier air wing (CVW) of 65 to 70 aircrafts. It’s composed of roughly 7,500 personnel, an aircraft carrier, at least one cruiser, a destroyer squadron of at least two destroyers and/or frigates. A carrier strike group also, on occasion, includes submarines, attached logistics ships and a supply ship. Carrier strike groups comprise a principal element of U.S. power projection over the world’s oceans.
Only one — the Theodore Roosevelt — currently at sea. All others have been sitting in home ports or being overhauled. Probably too expensive to have these Jurassic-era ships spend much time at sea. Aircraft carriers are obsolete and total waste of US taxpayer money, in a country where bridges and tunnels are being closed down for lack of maintenance, where trains regularly derail, where air travel is in state of terminal chaos, where 40 million live in poverty and over 10 million children are malnourished. It’s the kind of country someone might be tempted to call a sh*thole.
