Carrier strike group (CSG) is an operational formation of the United States Navy. It is centered on an aircraft carrier and a carrier air wing (CVW) of 65 to 70 aircrafts. It’s composed of roughly 7,500 personnel, an aircraft carrier, at least one cruiser, a destroyer squadron of at least two destroyers and/or frigates. A carrier strike group also, on occasion, includes submarines, attached logistics ships and a supply ship. Carrier strike groups comprise a principal element of U.S. power projection over the world’s oceans.
Japan pays for the carrier strike force in Yokosuka, which is the biggest Naval base I have ever seen, warships as far as the eye can see, through the smog. I assume Germany pays for the carrier strike force in Europe, but they might hand the hat around to other NATO members.
So the carrier strike forces that the US has to pay for, are all in port. So who is going bankrupt?
There is no carrier strike force in Europe, but Germany has to pay the barracks within the country. Tribute as tribute can be.
So where’s the USS Truman, Mars?
Its homeport is Norfolk. I think you are mistaking the ‘current’ location with its homeport.
Yes the home port is Norfolk, but it was cruising the Med a couple of weeks ago, and now it’s off the coast of Spain. When I went to school, Spain was considered part of Europe. But you seem to think Spain is in the US?
I never suggested that the US had a fleet or task group home ported in Europe, so why bring it up? Are you deliberately trying to confuse the discussion?
You assumed that Germany pays for a carrier strike force in Europe. I clarified that Europe does not have a homeport for a US carrier, nor that Germany would pay for a strike force, unlike Japan with Yokosuka.
That the USS Truman currently is located in Europe tells absolutely nothing about who is paying for it. It seems we are misunderstanding each others here.
