TASS reports (source):
The United States is backing Kurdish separatism on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River in Syria in spite of demands to respect territorial integrity of the country enshrined in UN Security Council resolutions, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday following talks with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif.
“We talked about the situation unfolding in Idlib and the Euphrates’ east bank where our US colleagues continue stoking separatist sentiments breaching demands of the UN Security Council to respect sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic,” Lavrov emphasized.
On October 9, Turkey launched a military incursion into northern Syria, codenaming it Operation Peace Spring, with the Turkish Armed Forces and the Ankara-backed Free Syrian Army carrying it out. The Turkish government claimed that its goal was to clear the border area of what it calls ‘terrorists’ (Ankara’s broad label of the Kurdish forces) and establish a 30 km-long buffer zone in Syria’s north, where over 3 million Syrian refugees in Turkey would resettle. Damascus slammed the operation as aggression, and the international community condemned Ankara’s move.
On October 17, the United States, represented by Vice President Mike Pence, reached a deal with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to pause Operation Peace Spring. Turkey consented to a 120-hour ceasefire so that Kurdish units making up the coalition of the Syrian Democratic Forces could leave the areas of the border security zone that Ankara is attempting to create.
On October 28, US Defense Secretary Mark Esper announced that Washington intended to deploy additional land mechanized forces to north Syria to protect oil fields from IS terrorists. High-ranking officials in the US administration have repeatedly reinforced measures to impose control over oil extraction in Syria with statements outlining that Washington is not willing to give up cooperation with Syrian Kurds in spite of Turkish demands.
Only if Syria sign a peace deal admitting to take Western usury loans and US and UK to take leadership in the rebuilding of Syria, we will withdraw our troops.
Otherwise we stay and we will make life a hell for Russias quagmire in Syria……………………….LOL.
dream on – the russians are on an upward trend while the unhinged states of A is getting close to the bottom and they can’t rely on nato or anyone else but the squatters and that ain’t much to put your faith in since they are better pushing up daisies.
Why should Syria “take Western usury loans”? Why does the US gov’t want to “make life a hell” for anybody? And Syria will never allow the US and UK, who backed and trained and financed terrorists who invaded Syria, to “rebuild” the Syria they helped terrorists destroy.
Kurdish Kommunist Party (PKK/YPG/SDF) is doomed with Trump’s withdrawal order in October. Turkish border peace zone (M4 highway) came into effect & dreams of a communist statelet disappeared. At that point boomer generals in Pentagon will continue to provoke Kurdish communists to conduct cross-border attacks into Turkey, while peaceful Kurdish parties coalition ENKS backed by Barzani will try to overthrow or coup Kurdish communist rule. Eventually hostilities will end, because US alone can’t support long those guerilla attacking Turkish borders. Russia, Turkey & Iran are the guarantors of the Syrian land integrity.
the kurds are a no no for turkey and for syria and for iraq and for iran thus they will be neutralized to oblivion unless they find a truce with all four of those countries and the squatters (are better when they are 6 feet under) and the unhinged states of a can’t do much about it.
Barzani is in peace with Turkey, Iran, Iraq & Syria. Communists label him as traitor for Kurdish independence. Economy in N.Iraqi Kurdistan boomed with his peaceful policies.
The US will reap what it has sown but unfortunately it will be the Kurds who get it first. Using Syria’s misfortune for land grabs is going to sour the already fragile relationship with Damascus. The area illegally occupied by US, with the consent of the UN it seems, and Kurd forces, belongs to Syria as does the oil they are stealing.
The Kurds were supposed to have reached an agreement with Damascus regarding the whole area they once peacefully occupied with the consent of the Syrian gov’t. Stabbing Damascus in the back isn’t going to go down too well. Using up Syrian goodwill may spur Damascus and the Turkish admin to develop closer ties to ensure a peaceful border. That will be the end game for any further talk of homelands.
The Kurds are making a terrible bed they will inevitably be left to lie in.
Syrians have received Kurds in their house. As sign of gratitude for the hospitality Kurds now want to take half of that house as their own. They should be kicked out of Syria for good.
