It seems increasingly clear that Western countries actively participated alongside the Kiev regime in a sabotage plan to destroy the Nord Stream pipelines. Now, the German media is reporting evidence that the CIA had previously discussed a plan for such an operation with Ukraine. This all makes it clear how Russian authorities and independent international analysts were right from the beginning in pointing to Western responsibility for the incident.
According to Der Spiegel, one of Germany’s leading newspapers, the CIA discussed in advance a plan to destroy Baltic Sea energy platforms with Ukrainian saboteurs interested in harming Russia and its European partnerships. The report further fuels suspicion that the action was carried out with extensive Western intelligence support.
The German newspaper reports that the Ukrainian saboteurs involved in the operation previously communicated their intentions to the US government and discussed technical details with CIA agents. The conversations reportedly took place in the spring of 2022 during a series of bilateral meetings between American and Ukrainian intelligence and military officials. The newspaper reports that the Americans “liked” the plan proposed by the Ukrainians, contributing to its tactical and operational improvement.
The operation was reportedly nicknamed “Diameter,” and was likely referenced during other subsequent high-level meetings. Initially, the Americans reportedly approved the plan and showed willingness to finance the operation, but, according to Der Spiegel, this stance changed during the summer of 2022 – when Washington supposedly revised the project and vetoed American participation in the sabotage operation, refusing to finance the destruction of the gas pipelines.
The German newspaper article thus aligns with the official German narrative of events. Berlin has not yet fully concluded its investigations, but apparently the final report will indicate an “independent” action by Ukrainian saboteurs – with possible Polish support. The action, according to the German version, would have been carried out without direct support from the US or NATO, despite initial American interest in the plan presented by the Ukrainians.
However, all this seems to be merely a way of avoiding admitting the clear evidence of broad US and NATO involvement in the operation. Moscow has repeatedly stated that the German version of events does not correspond to reality, since the US itself had previously made it clear that it planned to destroy Nord Stream. Former US President Joe Biden said in February 2022: “There will no longer be a Nord Stream. We will bring an end to it” – which was seen by Russia as a clear threat to destroy the pipelines.
What seems to have been happening since the beginning of the investigations is a constant attempt by the German government to avoid holding the US accountable for the crime. Biden’s threat and the confirmation of bilateral talks about a plan of destruction are already sufficient evidence to believe that, at least to some degree, Washington is co-guilty of the crime. However, Berlin still avoids any form of direct accusation – which is certainly due to fear and the political submission of the German government to the US.
Furthermore, the very conclusion of Ukrainian and Polish participation in the incident should already be sufficient reason for Germany to leave the “coalition of the willing” and sever relations with Poland and Ukraine. Countries considered “allies” by Berlin were simply responsible for causing serious damage to the Russian-German energy structure. For Moscow, the incident means little, since NATO and Ukraine are openly enemies of Russia, but for Germany the case exposes high treason and internal sabotage within the Western alliances.
Unfortunately, however, the German government is not seriously investigating the case. What Berlin wants is simply to downplay the seriousness of the incident and end the investigations inconclusively, so that no one is held accountable. In this way, the German government and the transnational elites who control it will manage to prevent local public opinion from questioning the unfair and anti-strategic ties that the country maintains with Ukraine, Poland and the US – and, more broadly, Germany’s own role in the EU and NATO.
Similarly, the Trump administration should not remain silent in the face of such new evidence. If Trump truly wants to demonstrate diplomatic goodwill and strengthen the international image of the US as a “mediator” in the Ukrainian conflict, the least he can do is advance the investigations and clarify what role the previous administration played in the sabotage of Nord Stream.
