US forces have been increasing activity at the Turkish-Syrian border, Reuters reported citing a People’s Protection Units (YPG) military commander.
According to Sharvan Kobani, US forces are going to start a monitoring of the situation on the border after Turkish cross-border fire and airstrikes on Kurdish militias in northern Syria. However, the article emphasized that the monitoring had not been started yet.
Meanwhile, pro-Kurdish sources argued that the monitoring has already started and US troops are patrooling the Kurdish-held areas bordering with Turkey.

Reports from locals appear that US forces could be seen along the whole border from Qamishlo to Kobane. If confirmed, US troops will become a buffer force that should prevent Ankara from combating Kurdish militias in Syria. Turrkey describes the YPG as a terrorist group, a branch of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

As for the SDF, not just the kurds, I rather think that, in case the US wants to stay involved, they will push the SDF either towards a kind of reconciliation or a semi autonomous region under influence (and airbases) of the US.

If YPG heads North, they will be leaving US protection.

How can the SDF concentrate the major part of their forces on the frontline with IS if they can be stabbed in the back by an Turkish incursion? Remember, ftom Tell Abyad to the IS lines is hardly 80 kms.

The kurds that want independance are part of the rebels (ENKS). The part of the kurds that want a federal Syria, want to remain within Syria, those are the YPG, part of the SDF.
They want a unified Syria, but not a unitary Syria. There are many federations. Some as big as Russia, Canada, Australia, India, Canada, Brasil, some as small as Belgium, Switzerland, UAE.
There is no reason why Syria could not be a functioning federal state. If the federation can not hold together, there must be something wrong with the center (Damascus).
The Syrian Kurds have major political differences with their cousins in Turkey and no respect for the Kurdish government in Iraq since they allowed smugglers to pass thru their border crossings hauling oil and goods for ISIS as long as truckers could pay for their excessive tolls. Their excuse was that they needed the money since Baghdad had been withholding their share of the oil revenues. Baghdad refused to released the funds so the traffic continued unabated. Then the US got with the international banking system and worked out a system where they could find out just where the refineries in Iraq, Jordan and Turkey were getting their oil so they could determine who was acquiring oil from seized Syrian and Iraqi fields. Each field oil has a unique composition which is always determined at refinery labs once it’s received. They keep that on record so the lab can determine which ones to blend before processing so they can end up with the desired amount of finished products. Those that were caught were punished by denying them operating loans.

It is the kurds in Iraq, KRG, that have problems with Iraq. The kurds in Syria do not have any problems with Iraq. In fact, Iraq accepts the PKK and pays the YBS (yezidi kurds allied to YPG and PKK) as part of the PMU.
The kurds of the KRG are allies to the PKK and YPG, except for the KDP (Barzani) who are allied to Turkey and Erdogan.
KDP kurds are exporting oil to Turkey (and Israel) by the Ceyhan pipeline. PKK has already bombed the pipline several times to stop this to deprive the KDP of money.

Kurdish M-1s can also strike southwest to bring abortion rights to Israel via Damascus, then Mecca, Kabul and Luanda. Turkey already has abortion rights so they have little reason to go North unless Erdogan rescinds abortion rights, which he might.
