US, Iran To Hold Breakthrough Talks On Nuclear Deal In Vienna

On April 2, the US and Iran reached a breakthrough agreement to kick start indirect talks on the 2015 nuclear deal.

The agreement came nearly three years after President Donald Trump pulled the US out of the deal, which is sponsored by the UK, China, France, Germany and Russia. The deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), restricted Iran’s nuclear program in return for relief from US and international sanctions.

US and Iranian officials will hold the first round of talks in the Austrian capital Vienna on April 6 through intermediaries.

The agreement on the start of indirect talks came after the European Union brokered a virtual meeting of officials from the UK, China, France, Germany, Russia and Iran.

Iranian state television quoted Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s nuclear negotiator at the virtual meeting, as saying in the meeting that any “return by the U.S. to the nuclear deal does not require any negotiation and the path is quite clear.”

“The U.S. can return to the deal and stop breaching the law in the same way it withdrew from the deal and imposed illegal sanctions on Iran,” Araghchi said.

Meanwhile, State Department spokesperson Ned Price called the resumption of negotiations a “healthy step forward.” He added that “these remain early days, and we don’t anticipate an immediate breakthrough as there will be difficult discussions ahead.”

According to Price, the talks will be structured around working groups that the EU was forming with the remaining participants in the accord, including Iran.

“The primary issues that will be discussed are the nuclear steps that Iran would need to take in order to return to compliance with the terms of the JCPOA, and the sanctions relief steps that the United States would need to take in order to return to compliance as well,” Price said, according to the Associated Press.

Iran abandoned many of its commitments under the JCPOA in the last two years in response to the US withdrawal of the deal. Most recently, Tehran began enriching Uranium with new centrifuge cascade.

The upcoming indirect talks in Vienna demonstrate the US and Iran willingness to return to the JCPOA. The two sides may later move to direct talks. The US didn’t rule out this possibility in the near future.

RT:

Iran rejects prospect of meeting US at upcoming nuclear deal talks in Vienna.

“The United States will not attend any meeting in which Iran is present, including the meeting of the joint commission [of the nuclear deal], and that is certain,” Araqchi said, signaling that Tehran is not seeking any contact with the US. Other parties of the JCPOA, however, may be seeking “to consult bilaterally or multilaterally with the United States,” describing such contacts as “their business.”

Araqchi said Tehran sees no point in talking with the US, as Washington’s potential return to the JCPOA, as well as the fate of the whole deal, solely depends on the issue of sanctions. As soon as the US “sanctions are lifted and this is verified,” Iran would immediately return to compliance with all the JCPOA obligations it recently suspended, he explained.

<>

That is actually not good news for Iran.

The U.S also represents our interests in those talks, and whatever deal that might be reached between the U.S and Iran will also force us to obey it. Now look who’s there: The EU, Russia and China. No other ME players so Ignoring the Israeli and our Arab friends concerns mean they can sign up on whatever they want in Vienna , but it won’t remove the military option.

The JCPOA failed exactly for that, keep that in mind.

Rafik Chauhan

Iran knows this well that zionist and whabhi scum will not allow US to join at all. thats why iran is looking to east more then west. bcuz east has more business opportunity then west. and east are not all slave of US/Zionist. But you keep pissing and dreaming about destroying iran. First check your own israeli politics which is falling aprat and people of occupied palestine including jews are uprising against zionist netanyahoo. and company.

<>

That’s not the case at all here.

We have protests yes, but not uprisings like in Iran. Don’t worry, no Basij here to kill the protesters.

Anyway, you ignored what I wrote. Iran can sign deals with the East / West / North / South or even the Polar bears. As long as the other ME concerns will be ignored, there will be no stability. Go ahead, no one is stopping you.

Ricky Miller

But I think you are ignoring the obvious elements in the equation. The visit of the PRC Foreign Minister to Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar indicates that China is taking their concerns into consideration. China is asking for everyone to play nice and co-exist. Statements of support along those lines from Qatar and the KSA for Chinese positions, including Xinjiang, indicate that a stability understanding quid-pro-quo has been reached, prompted in part by harsh American proclamations about KSA. But, still Iran has it’s infrastructure deal and a 25 year 1 million bpd export release for oil production. It has broken out of isolation and yet the ME remains widely quiet about it. If Israel breaks that quiet, she owns it. Just like the signs in the shops always say.

Jens Holm

More to me as their asses are towards west, because thats the only thing they have to make many happy:(

Nucu

what is the military option?

<>

As Gantz said:

https://www.timesofisrael.com/gantz-israel-will-take-military-action-against-nuclear-iran-if-needed/

Nucu

i don’t think that will happen if Iran rejoins conditions of the jcpoa. you can’t hit hard enough to prevent a missile attack from all directions

<>

Let’s hope we won’t come to that.

Ricky Miller

For your sake, I hope not too. Israel will be directly blamed for wrecking the global economy, any restraint Iran has shown in not developing an atomic arsenal will vanish, and great powers would have great incentive to put Israel on a tight leash. As much as I respect Israel’s progress and capability, the state doesn’t have great staying power in a large scale big power conflict. Israel would quickly find itself playing the role of Britain in the Suez crisis aftermath; a country that just lost it’s ability to act independently on the world stage. Permission slip revoked, now go sit in the corner. Even Washington D.C. has it’s limits.

Jim Allen

Iran is, and has been abiding the conditions of JCPOA. There’s nothing for Iran to do.

Nucu

yeah, i mean to return to initial state of affairs

Jim Allen

As soon as the sanctions are lifted. As stated.

Ricky Miller

There isn’t a military option. Not one that will work. And not one that doesn’t blow up into a wider confrontation, one in which Israel goes from being a top dog to a minor player.

Jens Holm

De escalation is an option too.

EU took it, when USSR collpased. We name it “Peace dividend”. So we spend less on Our military budgets but those billions instead are channeled into public and private activities.

it pays off. One of the very visible is windpower today cover 50% of the Danish electricity market and by stocking investments. That saves a lot of money as well as we have no town with HSO4 smog.

I would say for Iran, they would be able to make very needed reforms in their rural districts. They are so close to need food and it will be raining less and get warmere too. TGhe population is still growing even I havnt counted them myself.

A de escalation also making things easier for almost any kind of import and export. Iran can produce even it too often is very ineffective. But by that they can buy new equipment as well as innovate faster and better.

I will remind You many countries dont like Iranians at at all and their hostage game by radiation and other kinds of pollution.

Ricky Miller

Thanks for the non-sensical chapter Jens. Don’t you have a Nancy Drew novel to get back to?

Jens Holm

I just tell there are other options then made for now by the Iranian Governess. One is deescalating spending less money on the military things and using those money for productive investments.

I allow me to say it also pays on, bacause Iran later on will be stronger in economy and wellfare and can financegrowing military forces better and faster.

Making the cake to share bigger … Thats it.

And I am concerned for the climate changes. Iran will get even more dry and the population grow faster then the food production. By that iran might need to spend more in import then needed. The real unimployment rate is high too. It makes sense to reduce that by descent jobs in modern farming, where many hands are needed.

Helen4Yemen

https://i.imgur.com/TBXnobe.png?1 Why didn’t the Gantz realize that he looks too alien in the Arab region for one who claims to “return”?

Ricky Miller

The JCPOA failed because the United States violated the agreement. It can succeed (again) by having the parties return to compliance in the order they left.

Emad Irani

barking dogs don’t bite. Hasbara there is no talk with US and you cannot do a shit

<>

You always sound so mad, is that why your name is Emad? :-)

“I” don’t need to do anything, as it is not up to me and I just follow orders. No need to get offensive, sign all the deals you want with the irrelevant players. You’re not alone in the region, so don’t forget it.

Aphrodisia

“…. as its not up to me and I just follow orders”

The Nazis in the Nurenberg trials said they were just “following orders” too, we all know what happened to them.

<>

Damn, I must have forgotten that we killed 6M Palestinians with gas in camps or shot them in the head with machine guns. Can you direct me where and when exactly did we do that? I can’t seem to remember.

Small difference is it not? I follow orders to protect my people, they followed it to kill innocent people just for being different. Rethink about your comment, or go educate yourself. IDF soldiers don’t kill random people, we are not animals like you.

Nucu

Gaza is a 4 million concentration camp. it;s shameful that you do to others what was once done to you..

<>

Maybe it’s a camp, but it’s not a death camp. And they are in a camp because they chose Hamas in election they had, on the contrary West Bank Palestinians chose Fatah and that is why they can enter and work here. Learn the conflict first.

Nucu

i can debate what a death camp means. they are deprived of many things also shot by gurads.. really shameful. Hitler had reasons too. jews voted for the wrong party..

<>

They only get shot if they try to enter Israel, which in 99% of the cases are Hamas or PIJ terrorists that try to cross in order to kill Israelis in towns next to the Gaza border. Even Egypt doesn’t let them cross, and kills them. No one wants them, Hamas are a filth, and sooner or later we will deal with them again. Gazans still get supplies on a daily basis from Israel – food, gas, vaccines and other goods. I don’t remember Jews had so much privilege during the Holocaust.

Condor

Stop stealing Arab lands and go home.

Helen4Yemen

And why is the white Jew still there when he can safely return home? Who was “returning home”? The black Jew or white Jew or brown Jew? https://i.imgur.com/JO1rc5x.png?w=3

Aphrodisia

“IDF soldiers dont kill random people, we are not animals like you”

LOL, that has to be the biggest load of shite I have ever heard, thats ALL your “brave” soldier boys are capable of doing, firing on and killing innocent men, women and kids, over 200 Palestinians killed in the Great march of return protests and well over 30,000 wounded by your so brave snipers using them as target practice and even joking about it, its all been documented on tape and in the news you scumbag you are the animal here go take a long good look in the mirror. Just you go ahead and attack Iran, I dare you since you are so “brave”, why do you need the yanks to hold your hands? Your Karma is upon you and you will not escape that universal law, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction and as you have sown so shall you reap and your reckoning is here, enjoy what time you have left.

<>

Now I won’t sleep well, don’t be so mean :)

I couldn’t care less about your opinion, nor do I even need to explain myself to an outsider who only feeds his information from the media. Don’t waste my time.

Benny Morris:

The Jews engaged in rapes and massacres, lining up the natives against walls and shooting them one by one. The aim was to scare the natives to flee and they did. Link

Helen4Yemen

That 6 million business was between two white Europeans, and it took place far away from the Arab region.

Emad Irani

alone or not, our country is older than all of the other countries here :) Beside that look up, look down, look right and left, everywhere “Iranian backed groups” or “forces” as your masters are saying this in the US. You know it very well. The times of being the only “regional power” (with help of West and US of course) is long over.

There is no talk with US as long as the sanctions are on board. First lift all sanctions then there could be talks, only then. Before that we will move on in producing ICBM’s and of course we will go full nuclear just like NK in 2006 and 2009, beside arming and financing more resistance Forces in the region

Saso Mange

Hasbara is on decline for last 3 decades. Having Hasbara ministry doesn’t help the fact that almost every Zionist myth has shattered. New age Zionist supporters use those busted myths still. Like “land without people BS” etc.

Raptar Driver

Of course we represent your interest. You control at least half of our government.

<>

The last time I checked, Americans themselves chose Biden not Israelis or Jews, so your point is invalid.

Israel has been a U.S ally in the ME since our independence, it’s only natural that the current Administration also considers our interests (or other U.S ally interests) and protect them.

if you have any complaints please do make sure to send a letter to your nearest representative, let me know what they answered. God knows I have a fully tummy on my government too, but heck, they never seem to care.

Captain Freedom

“I am a Zionist. You don’t have to be a Jew to be a Zionist” -Joe Biden (2007)

Maybe not a jew, but then again, whos a real jew anyway? Some white guys with eastern european/german surnames? Who gives a damn where the occupiers really originate from? Being a zionist is what matters here, Biden is your president, your represantitives in Washington and of course Dominion made this possible.

Helen4Yemen

Kennedy initiated a letter to Nasser of Egypt and he said he was stretching his hand of friendship and he wanted to move away Egypt from aligning with the Russians. But then Kennedy was also reminding Nasser how without US grains sent to Egypt that the Egyptians would be starving … meaning, Egypt should not mind how the US gave foreign Jews a piece of Arab land for their state. Just be thankful for the US grains. But his letters to the Jew ‘PM’ were not only polite but extremely polite. When Kennedy asked he wanted inspectors sent to Dimona and he was not receiving a reply, he did not show his frustration, it was like he was really scared of them.

Helen4Yemen

https://i.imgur.com/U5fWtdt.png?w=300

The white Jew said he did not steal Palestine but he was only returning to his ancestral land. But the white Jew is as European as the Germans. Does he not feel ashamed to make such an absurd claim? Look at him.

Condor

There was no independence, it was genocide, invasion and occupation of Palestine. Get your twisted narrative right.

Raptar Driver

Well Mr. iron,We did not vote for him. The deep state chose him and fixed the election. You should be familiar with this Since you’re Netanyahu is basically Deep state.

Helen4Yemen

If the French left Algeria, what is the reason for the white Jew not to get out of Palestine? He has more weapons than the natives, right?

Helen4Yemen

Hey Iron, how goes it?

Basically, Israel doesn´t count anymore, sorry bud.

We don’t count till we take action, seems like only a matter of time. Take care John.

Saso Mange

Iron Zion hahah

Same news on sputnik. Apparently the US will not participate

Jens Holm

Sputnik always are propaganda.

Ricky Miller

…who just happens to report accurate news. It’s Western MSM that engages in 24/7 poopaganda.

Saso Mange

Everyone engages in propaganda. If you didn’t realize that by now… It’s just that the West has done so much shit since Iraq and they have moved to new level of brainwash and propaganda to sustain it’s failures. That doesn’t mean that Russia doesn’t engage in propaganda as it also has it’s interests to protect.

Ricky Miller

Sure, Russia has information narratives to protect. What does that have to do with Sputnik? I can’t find lying, fake, spun stories on Sputnik or RT. Whenever I ask claimants for an example, I never hear back.

Saso Mange

When you presume that everything needs to be checked it’s natural. Is it truthful or not it’s about media editors to make it one or the other. So far, when we look at Russia and USA – Russia has more credibility but that could change if people became careless and that is also positive to make such concern as it’s natural to fact check it. Hope i make it clear.

daniel

The current Iranian administration is in US’s pocket and they try badly to have an agreement before they leave the office,

Just Me

Rouhani is a pimp for sure, but either Deghan or Saeed Mohammed will be president in May. Both are hard-line IRGC generals.

Saso Mange

“in US pocket”? Now that’s silly.

Maybe if maximum pressure is going to last 10 more years then Iran would be in deep shit but for now US can’t do shit. Regardless of Israeli lobby which is responsible for Iraq, Lybia and many more of US failures.

shylockracy

There’s no point in talking to UK, France and Germany either, except for more Chinese and Russian business and partnership with the Zioterrorists.

Condor

Under destructive Jew self serving virus influenza the US has mishandled relations with a historic power like Iran and is now floundering as China fills the void. US under the Zionist cabal see Russia as a softer target, so the priority is now the Balkanization of Russia. Iran is now firmly allied with PRC so US will try appeasement.

Saso Mange

That’s interesting view. Considering economy that might be reality any time soon. Russia is on decline, that’s not a secret. China has surpassed it long ago because Putin has still not managed to repair what Jelcin left. That is if Putin is trying to fix past mistakes at all…

HB_Norica

“Russia is on decline, that’s not a secret.”

I’m not so sure that’s true. Russia has yet to really emerge as a market economy. They went directly from feudalism to communism and their efforts to emerge as a market economy since the fall of communism has been stifled by first by corruption then by western hostility and sanctions.

During the Soviet years Russia was in a continuous state of crisis. First the devastation of WW1 followed by a revolution and an even more devastation. Then the economic isolation and social upheavals of the 20’s and 30’s followed by the most destructive war in history.

Before they could recover from the devastating first half of the 20th century they were immediately threatened with nuclear war from the USA and had to rebuild from WW2 while spending on arming for the cold war instead of consumer goods.

I don’t believe we’ve seen the Russian economy emerge yet let alone be in decline.

Saso Mange

It’s all coupled, unfair one sided sanctions, pandemic etc only big pharma is not on decline.

Jesus

Russia is a softer target than Iran? I don’t know why you would make such a statement.

Just Me

Iran holds all the cards now, dumbass American maximum pressure turned out to be maximum hot air.

shylockracy

There’s no merit in holding any talks with terrorists Ziocorporate globalists from US/UK/France/Germany; Iran’s future should be in developing socioeconimically without caving in to any demand or request from them, and if they deem it necessary to have a nuclear weapon to defend the Iran position in the Middle East, so be it. It actually became a necessity the moment the Western Zioterrorists gave the Rothschild neocolony in Palestine nukes to threaten the planet with the “Samson option”.

If China and Russia want so much business and partnership with the Zioterrorists, they could put their own nukes and nuclear plants on the negotiation table with the Western Ziocorporatist terrorists.

Jens Holm

Iranians are so funny. If Russia gave them one to make them happy, they probatly would test it in Teheran Airport and see if they are cheated:)

Raptar Driver

I see you had too much black label today?

Jim Allen

These “talks” are going nowhere. Iran must go through the motions yet again to show US Government has no plans to lift sanctions, or rejoin JCPOA.

Raptar Driver

What has gotten into the heads of the Iranians? They already had a deal and the US reneged on it. Why negotiate again? Don’t you realize you can’t make deals with the beast?

Aphrodisia

They are not, its FAKE NEWS.

Ilya Grushevskiy

It’s fake news, if they are going to attack Russia in Ukraine, Israel attacks Iran.

Condor

So-called Israel will cease to exist if it even fires a bullet towards Iran. The Zionists are all bluff and bluster and want Americans to die for them. Russia is the weakest link so US will initiate a conflict in Ukraine. Putin’s pandering to the west and Zionists has backfired. The Bilderberg Jews see Russia as the final resource frontier. The Jew 5th column in Russia is a mortal enemy of the Slavic people since the Byzantine era. It is a nexus of Catholics and Khazars. Poland is the snake pit.

Looks like China’s $400 billion deal with Iran has forced Biden into compliance.

Blue In Green

All the information I’ve been reading up on this thus far indicates to a scenario in which both Iran and United States jointly implement JCPOA requirements simultaneously (all in one-go) rather than sequentially as, it would seem, that Biden’s administration has no want to further escalate the Iranian nuclear issue given America’s utter failure in counteracting Chinese expansion in the East-Asia Pacific region which dearly requires their full-attention.

Iran’s economy and stability are secured for the foreseeable future, of that I have no doubt. With America’s reintegration into the JCPOA accord, we will see Iran’s economy (hopefully) bounce-back within the next several years. What people need to ascertain here is that the once mighty United States is finding it increasingly difficult to hold on to its hegemony worldwide due to the meteoric rise of China and Russia’s new found strength.

Also (lol), don’t listen to any other idiot on here who thinks they know what they’re talking about when it comes to Iran’s nuclear energy program or the JCPOA and its implication. It is to America’s benefit to see that the JCPOA is fully reinstated.

John

Going nowhere, unless the US fulfills their part in full. The China-Iran deal was struck, so Iran will be moving to a completely different orbit with absolutely zero the US can offer to equal it. On top of this is the trust issue; no street cred left for the US Federal Government ( non-negotiation capable ). Iran may listen but, they do not have ANY long term incentive to go along with a US deal at this juncture. It will be nothing short of miraculous if they merely get the original deal working again. There could also be a tremedous cost to the occidentals to get Russia and China to remotely suggest that Iran might listen to them on this issue. Guard you family members, especially the girls, anybody could be sacrificed to get this one to roll. :P

Further, China stopped in to chat with other gulf states during it´s trip to the region and the reactions have probably blown the Biden administration´s mind. The KSA was exceptionally brutal in what it had to say regarding US/EU comportment towards China. It looks like they are leaving the building. So, no cred and no juice; pffffffft, who is going to sign on to teaming up with that? I look at this as much more hype than substance.

China 1, Occidentals -20 and Israel -20,000. We shall see. My take.

Ivan Freely

I see it as more wishful thinking by the Occidentals. They’re hoping that the Iranians were very reluctant in signing the deal. I believe it’s over for the JCPOA.

John

Hello Ivan. I agree. The Irainans put more emphasis on their position just today. I too, think it is all over except the rest of the play. The thing is the EU is also S..O..L if it goes down and they are scared.

verner

it’s business, the europeans are longing to get back and sell cars, and brand new airbuses and toothpaste and develop oil fields and build pipelines – lotsa money to be made and here they are, sidestepped by china and russia and a few more. the thing is that the yankee-twats can stop all that since they, as per susual, will resort to sanctions and more sanctions if they can’t get what they want. one such thing is a stop on the development of missiles (ordered by the jews in palestine) which the Iranians now are very good at and which they won’t stop making, poor fuckers yankee-twats, can’t do much right now a days since their agenda is set by the thieves and murderers in palestine, the jews.

John

Hello Verner. I agree that Israel has a ton to do with this. The caveat is, they mean less and less by the week. The events of the last two weeks alone have overturned their plans in such a way, they have basically been sidelined. I think this will become more apparent as time passes, although it is hard to perceive for many at this moment. The govenment in DC is point blank delusional. It has been so for a while. This is going to crash upon them bigtime. I wish they would wise up.

Tommy Jensen

Iran should believe America. This time US is serious. US wont let Iran down. Trump wanted WWIII and WWIV, but today both US and Iran are liberals. We can can do it together……LOL.

Potato Man

Lol

verner

yep lucky you got rid of trump before his shenanigans could turn into reality and now there is lamblike biden. lucky you lucky us!!

John

lol ……. right on Tommy.

farbat

hahahahahaha you are delusional iran got rid of the liberals and what iran did is not to allow one state two systems or something absurd like that to be created and instead it integrated all those who it would internally defeat and exiled those who were only after causing ruin

farbat

to put it simpler for you the internal war is won by the revolutionaries since the liberals failed years ago to show any merit to their empty words and less merit there is to their policies which are all western leaning

farbat

this is pretty much the last liberal admin inside iran since the whole concept i repeat has 0 merit to it the ideology is ruinous and it all has no place in iran and will be taken down rapidly

HB_Norica

What’s the point. You know in four years when they all swap chairs in the USA the deals going to be broken again. These minor differences in FP just serve as a distraction to keep US voters squabbling while the rich pick the carcass clean.

zman

Sounds like political propaganda to me. Iran has stated their position, the ball is in the US court and this may be a plan to paint Iran as intransigent, refusing to negotiate. Whether true or not does not matter, it may be a public facade they could be erecting to justify any further sanctions or military action. If anything does come from this (doubtful) then the US can capitulate and make it look as though they negotiated a settlement. After all, it would be through surrogates, in private and they write the news in the US and can put forth any story they like. However, should Iran engage in any talks with ‘surrogates’, the second Iran is called on to capitulate on enrichment first, it’s likely dead…which would again paint Iran as intransigent. While it is entirely possible that the US might cease sanctions first, while not admitting it publicly, to get Iran to cease enrichment, the idea that the agreement will be renegotiated in any way (which means Iran’s missiles) would be political poison in Iran. The US assassination of Soleimani pretty much showed Iran that the US wants only a weakened and defenseless Iran…one that Israel can attack with impunity. The nukes always were and still are a false argument, that’s why Israel was against it from the git-go. The success in Yemen against western tech shows that Israel correctly assessed Iran’s potential and is the reason Trump dumped the agreement.
