US-led Coalition Intensifies Air Raids in Iraq

On August 4, the US-led coalition air power conducted a series of airstrikes on ISIS targets in northern Iraq. The air strikes reportedly destroyed a main ISIS command centre in the province of Nineveh.

“The targeted headquarters included a major weapons’ store and a security centre for the Islamic State. The facility turned into rubble after the airstrike, which led to the destruction of a large deal of ammunitions and weapons,” the pro-US Kurdish website ARA News quoted the head of Nineveh media centre, Raafat al-Zarari.

The same report argued significant casualties among ISIS members as result of the air strikes. No video or photo evidences have been provided.

On August 3, the Turkish state-run Anadolu Agency reported that at least 27 people were killed and 15 others injured by coalition airstrikes in the western Iraqi town of al-Qaim near Syrian border on August 2. Anadolu Agency added that 4 air strikes on ISIS sites in the town resulted in civilian casualties.

On August 1, US-led coalition warplanes destroyed a foreign fighter training site and meeting area near the city of Mosul, the US Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve said in a press release.
