The US-led coalition has rejected claims of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Iranian-backed factions of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) played a key role in the Iraqi government operation in Kirkuk province.
A coalition spokesman, US Army Col. Ryan Dillon, said that directly denied claims of the KRG and the KRG-linked media aruging that the IRGC and the PMU played a key role allowing the Federal Government to take back Kirkuk city,
“From our official reporting from our elements that participating and have re-established security in and around the Kirkuk area, those are Iraqi security force elements like the Counter-Terrorism Service, the Federal Police, and we do not have reports of PMF units or the types of units you had mentioned that we have received,” the spokesman said in response to a question from Rudaw’s Pentagon correspondent Rebaz Ali.
Dillon added that the developments in Kirkuk area were “supposed to be a coordinated movement.” The spokesman emphasized that the Peshmerga just handed over the areas to Iraqi forces.
Thus, the US-led coalition once again showed that it is not going to support the KRG agenda in Iraq. The coalition is not even ready to provide the KRG a media assistance confirming its claims about the “Iranian agression” against the Kurdish nation.
Earlier on October 17, the Peshmerga General Command released a statement claiming that the PMU and the IRG attacked it in Kirkuk and surrounding areas. The statement claimed that it’s “a clear declaration of war against the people of Kurdistan” and added that the Iraqi government “will pay a heavy price for the crimes.”

The Talabani PUK betrayal of Kurdish desires for freedom will not go unpunished either. Today’s pull back of KRG forces is more of consolidation than a retreat. Plus there is now immense pressure on Trump to not be seen as being bested by Iran in Iraq. Instead of calming the situation, it still remains volatile.

I see no defeat in Syria at all.They would never be there if not the Assad made ISIS came out of hands first by Assads and then US, Saudis and Qatars. Now ISIS is reduced and US has bases there, where they are welcometo stay.

Every pro-separatist I’ve argued with uses the same child’s argument: they fought for it. The Kurds were not asked to liberate non-Kurdish land, that was the job of non-Kurds and they did that job. I guess the US should own Western Europe and Russia own Eastern Europe for participation in WW2.

The invasive in Kirkuk were Sunni hard heads, whiere many – of course – became ISIS in the best “Saddam style”.
