US-led Coalition: Turkish Military Will Not Enter Manbij

US forces are in the outskirts of the Syrian town of Manbij

On June 20, a spokesman for the US-led coalition, Colonel Sean Ryan, revealed during a press briefing that the Turkish military will not enter the northern Syrian city of Manbij. Col. Ryan added that the city will remain under the control of the coalition and the Manbij Military Council (MMC).

“They’re independent coordinations, they’re not joint patrols. I can tell you that Turkish soldiers will not go into Manbij … Manbij Military Council is in control of all the area, and so this will just be basically along the northern demarcation line is where the conflict will take to it,” Col. Ryan during a press briefing at the Pentagon, according to the Kurdish Rudaw TV.

The Turkish military began conducting patrols around Manbij a day earlier as a part of a Turkish-U.S. roadmap for stabilizing the city. Commenting on the development, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said back then that the Turkish military will “run through” the northern city and claimed that it was cleared from Kurdish militias.

It’s unclear yet if the US-led coalition will alllow the Turkish military to enter Manbij later this year. Meanwhile, Turkey and the U.S. will supposedly work to purge the MMC from the supporters of the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) as a the second step of the same roadmap.

Obviously civilians will want Mr Assad, but there is one little problem – the US.

Siegfried

“… but there is one little problem – ..” ISRAEL.

Right. Just like before when you assured everyone that there’s no deal with Turkey. I’m sure this time you’re not speaking with a forked tongue.

Is it just me or SDF is slowly moving from Kurdish-dominated to ex-ISIS-dominated (thanks to Saudi money and Turkey’s pressure)? As far as I remember, MMC was under direct control of YPD and it’s armed arm (teehee!), YPG. Turkish government won’t accept MMC as long as Kurds (linked to PKK) are in this council.

Rudaw published a lot of lies before, this time I don’t know if it’s another lie or their source is crooked. Slowly but surely they will find out how bitter it is to be betrayed by the ones whose hands they put all their hopes and future in and ruined their good chance with the government.

Bravo USA… push Erdogan completely in the arms of Putin ;)… Wasn’t there an agreement about some MIXED Turkish-American patrols? :)) ….. And BTW USA… get TF out of Syria, who asked you to push your noses in there?

Smaug

This only the umpteenth time that Turkey has declared diplomatic victory. But the US has no concept of a fait accompli and the intrigues of local commanders aren’t enough to convince everyone that a deal has already been made.

Siegfried

You sound like Jerusalem Post

Uh, this isn’t something westerners are familiar with, but Turkey mau be plotting a coup. Operating under the guise of an exaggerated agreement they may link up with secret allies in the Kurdish militias and seize key positions before anyome finds out what’s really happening. If that is the case, however, then the Turks don’t understand that Americans won’t simply leave rather than fight off an obvious usurpation.
