US Navy Complains Russian Su-27 Jet Intercepts US Spy Plane Over Black Sea

A screenshot from the video

On November 5, the US Navy stated that a Russian Su-27 fighter jet had intercepted a US EP-3 spy plane in “unsafe” fashion over the Black Sea. It also posted video showing the armed fighter jet flying within meters of the spy plane.

“This interaction was determined to be unsafe due to the Su-27 conducting a high speed pass directly in front of the mission aircraft, putting at risk the pilots and crew,” the US Navy said claiming that its aircraft was “operating in accordance with international law.”

The US Navy complained that the Russian fighter jet had intercepted the US spy plane near Russian borders. Nonetheless, it forgot to mention that the Black Sea is located over 7,000 km away from the US border.

way more than ”within meters” the EP-3 would have bounced around quite heavenly due tot the turbulence created by the Russian Su-27 fighter

#'~A*QXm(>NRmm]w?dU4vXZ

Aren’t those Russkies evil? They don’t even allow innocent US spy planes to carry out their work, and they even go so far as to fly in an unsafe fashion, obviously without caring for that poor US pilot. It is a true disgrace.

US pilots feeling unsafe near Russian borders? Not willing to die for banksters profits? How unpatriotic of them.

Rob G

When do the russians complain of these provocations…? Russians wanna do all this hostile maneuvers in international waters…. When the russians have the balls to do it to us, lets see when they will grow the balls for the exercise…

AM Hants

Sorry can you translate? Black Sea – Crimea – Russian territory, with military base. Was not aware the Black Sea was so close to the US?

USS Donald Cook, learnt a lesson when the ship got too close to Bastion, over in Crimea. Not forgetting Kaliningrad. Shame Russia did not do the same to the US spy plane, sniffing too close to Crimea.

Rob G

Umm… Maybe you misunderstood me.. When does Russia complain of U.S. intervention via this parameters? You failed to touch any point of the reply that i would have accepted

James

Your still not making sense. Maybe you should leave this for intelligent people.

It is your comment that makes little sense. Are you the product of current US or UK ‘education’ ?

What! Don’t blame me! I only teach them Science.

Like I said, I need a translator.

By the way, it was the US crying the tears, Russia was just shaking up the recording systems, with a little flight turbulence.

Jens Holm

You are totally outdated about how the world has been for many years.

http://www.blackseagrain.net/information/maps/black-sea-region-map

AM Hants

Not half as much as you. Why is your map trying to ignore Russia? Including pointing out Crimea is part of Russia?

Jens Holm

I took a random map telling things are along the coasts are very different since 1991 and Russia too muich behave as those countries still were a part of USSR defence territory.

Most normal people can abstract plus and minus for Crimea as well at the counsild at Donetsk.

And we do have exact the same problem here in Denmark at the Baltic Sea, where we have Kalingrad in the middle of Nato according to airdefence and going to the ecgreme from Russian airplanes.

The last changes is Russians has deplyed many big missiles in Kaliningrad and will take in more. THEY ESCALATE.

We thewrefore have orderes 4 Scud batteries for korvettes as well as bunches of small ones. And russians do simulate attack at our territory and stop seconds from comming into out 100% own part. They do close their transporters. They dont tell it before they do anymore.

AM Hants

1989 James Baker, the Secretary of State, promised Gorbechev, that he would not move an inch into Eastern Europe. You have pointed out the lies told, when they so wished to dismantle the Warsaw Pact and yet, keep Nato going. Why? So weird, or was it designed to turn Nato into a uni-polar, offensive union?

Then you have the history of the Black Sea and Montreux Convention 1936. Which was never set up to assist the US, which is not a signatory to the Convention, or Nato members.

Your random map, really? When it omits to mention Russia?

Why does Russia need to keep ahead with regards defending her territory in Kaliningrad?

Which takes us back to the promises of Baker, who emphatically stated if only Gorbechev would dismantle the Warsaw Pact, then Nato would not move an inch into Eastern Europe. So how do ‘first strike missile defence systems’ (clue in first strike), placed in Eastern Europe, on Russia’s borders, fit into the promises of 1989?

Who wants war and it is not Russia?

What the US fucken spy plan was doing there, to spy on Russia? The US spy plans reins is in the control of Russia. When cross redline then don’t cry. LOL

beypuutyina

bobbie, you learn about reality first, then comment

look at project Open Sky

Kristina Rain Mcleod

Yes look at ‘project open sky’

Flights are supervised by men of both militaries. The receiving country and the observing country set a path and schedule it ahesd of time to make sure its judt them in the sky and not some civilian jet, or some hostile plane that makes itself a nice slow moving target for AA

The open skies treaty has a lot of parameters in respect to safety of those involved and those who could possibly find themselves in a dangerous and even fatal situation.

This is not open skies its over international waters and there’s been a few times when US spy planes have been at the center of one awful disaster cos they shadows a civilian aircraft from int skies over waters and got it shot down at least once.

The US has no business trying to swim in the local community pool of that area. None.

beypuutyina

black sea, baltic sea blongs o this program. and morover, in international waters everybody can do intel. ruskies do also around hawai, etc. what is forbidden to fly so close to another jet.

Jens Holm

http://www.blackseagrain.net/information/maps/black-sea-region-map

Rob

Open sky rules does not apply to sensitive areas in the world where the US wonkers have created instability, otherwise somebody will fu*k the US spy plans war ships and war machines there.

beypuutyina

open sky is over whole europe also above moscow, kiev, london :P

Jens Holm

They have done that since Turkey became a Nato member.

Brian Michael Bo Pedersen

Actually any party of the Open Skies Treaty have the legal right to observe any party of the Treaty of Open Skies both outside and within each partys airspace, and theres nothing to do about it.

https://www.osce.org/library/14127

“Each State Party shall be obliged to accept observation flights over its territory in accordance with the provisions of this Treaty.”

“Observation flights may only be restricted for reasons of flight safety and not for reasons of national security.”

And the allowed sensors are: (A) optical panoramic and framing cameras; (B) video cameras with real-time display; (C) infra-red line-scanning devices; and (D) sideways-looking synthetic aperture radar.

Kristina Rain Mcleod

Oh honey. You neglected to mention that part in open skies where flights are supervised by members of both parties.

Said flights are also scheduled and flown over an agreed path in accordance with local and international flight safety so as not to put innocdnt people at risk merely because one side wanted to observe anothers land.

Start over.

Brian Michael Bo Pedersen

Theres a difference between supervised/escorted and trying to deny. If a route have been agreed between the Russians and the US, then the Russians cannot deny them access. If the US is just flying where ever they want without letting the Russians know about it (witch is most likely the case here), it would block the US in the door as well.

I do not know if the US just tried their luck or if they followed a agreed upon route.

AM Hants

Tried their luck, as usual.

Remember, when they sent the USS Donald Cook to Crimea, hoping to kick Russia out of Sevestapol? Bastion smiled warmly and flared up. The first time a US Destoyer did a figure of eight, in the Black Sea. Then the same ship, same area, caught the attention of the Russian military jets. You would have thought the US learnt their lessons, but, they decided it would be a good idea to get too close to Kaliningrad, when Russia were expecting a nuclear first strike. Didn’t President Putin, personally give the orders for the Russian submarine to shut them up?

One hour and 24 minutes into this video, you find out what happens to the USS Donald Cook meeting Bastion. The other links relate to USS Donald Cook and USS Theodore Roosevelt, getting too close to Crimea and Kaliningrad.

Here we go again. Russia dont own the black sea at all. They have big influenze in their own parts and all has to keep the rules for the international part.

Since 1991 the Bulgarian, the Roumanian, The ukrainian and the Georgian parts non of russian business.

In areas outside that, You have to be visible by tranponders and announce, if You do something, which is not normal procedures. You follow corridors and also can be rescued by showing, where You are.

Brian Michael Bo Pedersen

“Russia dont own the black sea at all.”

Denmark does not own the Baltic Sea either, UK does not own the North Sea either, US dont own the Atlantic either, Japan does not own the Pacific either, Spain or Turkey does not own the Mediterranean either, yet, they intercept VVS flights like its their own territory.

“Bulgarian, the Roumanian, The ukrainian and the Georgian parts non of russian business.” When did the VVS go over those territories, acording to the article the incidient happens over international waters?

If you had a nabour, wich said to everyone that you are the evil of evil, and he walked just outside your property watching you and listening to everything you said, would you let him or do something about it?

Extreme_One

You have no idea what you are talking about. This was not an open sky flight

Brian Michael Bo Pedersen

The please educate me in what is a Open Sky Flight

Extreme_One

Educating will cost you $5. This was just a regular surveillance mission by US. Open sky treaty is something else. They are scheduled and would be over Russian or US territory. Wouldn’t get intercepted. Also US is nowadays backing down from the treaty as they dont need it. They have satellites and Global hawk. Your description is correct but this was not one of them. I dont know where you get that from. It not stated by the US or Russian side.

Brian Michael Bo Pedersen

Thank you for the description, i owe you a beer or cup of coffee then.

I got the info from OSCE.org, thinking that, in this case, it was a trustworthy source, since i dont trust wikipedia

FlorianGeyer

NEVER trust a zionist source for anything. Even look out of your window to check the weather :)

Jens Holm

Those are rules for the whole world and they are very detailed. The same goes for the sea.

Of course parts of them are contested here and there, but Your ziotisme is far out.

Brian Michael Bo Pedersen

Zionist or not, they are still the rules the world have agreed upon.

FlorianGeyer

Rules that are not followed by Israel or FUKUS, and never have been.

Brian Michael Bo Pedersen

Yet we can agree upon that those are the rules MEANT to be followed, made and agreed upon by the international community, NATO and the old Warszawa pact in particular?

Therefore if the text in unchanged, the source does not matter and does no add og subtract credibility?

AM Hants

Did not realise ‘Open Sky’ was 24/7?

Didn’t the US voice their wish to pull out of the ‘open sky’ treaty, owing to not liking it when Russia exercises her rights?

Brian Michael Bo Pedersen

Agree, That is a typical US move; crying that the other party is denying any cooperation, yet they are the ones denying the other party access.

FlorianGeyer

Its a deliberate US strategy , borrowed from Israel.

I would not have a problem with the VVS performing OST flights over other countrys.

Interesting article, mistaking the Soviet Union for Russia, in some parts. Remember, James Baker, the Secretary of State, promised Gorbechev, back in 1989, they would not move an inch into Eastern Europe, if only he would dismantle the Warsaw Pact. Moving the Soviet tanks from the streets of Eastern Europe. So why are there now US tanks, strutting down the streets of Eastern Europe, together with Nato members, bordering the Black Sea?

C’mmon! It was just a warning to US. The next time they will do it…there will be no complaining.

VeeNarian (Yerevan)

Same old pesky Russians, not allowing the exceptionally violent and expansionist US EVIL Empire to spy on its God-given sovereign territory, the entire planet. I would prefer the diplomacy of the US Western movies: shoot first and talk later. RF should shoot first and then apologise profusely later, sending Lavrov all over the US. The language used by RF should be the same as that used by the US police when they shoot unarmed African-Americans. “They were big, black and very threatening to the security of the RF.”
