US Officially Calls On Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government To Postpone Independence Referendum

On September 15, the White House’s Office of the Press Secretary released a statement revealing an official attitude of the United States towards an Iraqi Kurdistan independence referendum that is scheduled for September 25.

The United States called on the Kurdistan Regional Government to postpone the referendum and added that “the referendum is distracting from efforts to defeat ISIS and stabilize the liberated areas”.

The United States does not support the Kurdistan Regional Government’s intention to hold a referendum later this month. The United States has repeatedly emphasized to the leaders of the Kurdistan Regional Government that the referendum is distracting from efforts to defeat ISIS and stabilize the liberated areas. Holding the referendum in disputed areas is particularly provocative and destabilizing. We therefore call on the Kurdistan Regional Government to call off the referendum and enter into serious and sustained dialogue with Baghdad, which the United States has repeatedly indicated it is prepared to facilitate,” the statement reads.

Earlier on September 15, the Kurdistan Region Parliament voted to hold the independence referendum later this month.

Translation: Kurds are merely cannon fodder to the US, and when ISIS is finally defeated the Kurds will be left out to dry…

Wise decision. Too late though. These dummies will invoke the ire of Iraq and Syria and all hell will break loose-more.

postpone. not abandon. big difference!

Barba_Papa

In politics postponement is often the first step to getting rid of things.

Yet again the Americans poking their noses in other peoples business

Didn’t Barzani (or some other SDF leader) say that they do nothing without approval from Washington?

And now Washington is backpedaling again with aimless foreign policy. On the one hand they want Turkey, on the other hand they want to annex this new land, build bases and support civil war and regime change in Turkey, they can’t have both and they can’t decide. In the end they might lose both. More flip flopping to be expected from demented brain tumor patients, like McCain and buddies running their congress.

This might actually not be so bad after all

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

They are trying to appear like they are backpedaling , but they want this to happen as they can get even more involved in the region with NUTTO forces since the US lacks the ability to go it alone. This eerily similar to what they did in Former Yugoslavia, why those see a case of Deja Vu. We witnessed the Peshmerga kill 450 prisoners that were handed over from the US which is a repeat of what they did there in Serbia, they ended up by separating Bosnia and Kosovo in this manner with proxies.

America will tell Kurds that at what time you should have to chop the Iraqi land.

Solomon Krupacek

and who gave this right to americans?

US as usual have one hand in the pocket, while another hand is gesticulating. Usual Yankee tactics of pretending that they are against something, which they are not.
