As a Saudi daily newspaper reports, nine US citizens have been arrested on terror charges in Saudi Arabia. The Americans were among a total of 33 terror suspects detained over the last week.
Saudi authorities also arrested 14 Saudis, three Yemenis, two Syrians, a Palestinian, a Filipino, an Indonesian, a United Arab Emirates citizen, and a citizen of Kazakhstan, the report said.
None of the U.S. officials was authorized to speak publicly, and American authorities did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
According to a local newspaper, Six U.S. officials said on Sunday they did not believe nine US citizens were among 33 suspects detained on terrorism charges in Saudi Arabia.
Commenting on such a report the English-language daily Saudi newspaper just added: Four Americans were detained last Monday, followed by another five in the other days last week.
The security has been increased after a string of attacks against Shia targets claimed by Sunni jihadists.
Saudi Arabia has already announced the arrest of 431 people with suspected links to the Islamic State group.
