The Trump administration has been steadily increasing its sanction pressure on Venezuela and Iran in an attempt to overthrow governments of these countries and undermine their ability to provide independent foreign and internal policies. In the framework of these efforts, the US will likely try to seize tankers with Iranian gasoline that head to Venezuela and pressure companies involved iin the trade.
Trump will probably not risk provoking another humiliating Iranian strike on US interests, especially in the run-up to the US election. However, the Pentagon may toy with the idea, given that any Iranian closure of the Strait of Hormuz will have much less impact in the current oil surplus environment. Part of me hopes the US oversteps and gets a good slap.

If our enemies had stopped their hostile plans against us before that war, we would have no reason to attack anyone. But what differentiates this situation from the previous one is that in this case, the Trump administration seeked and acquired a federal court authorization to sieze the ships. Secondly, it’ll deal an even more damaging blow to America’s world power status of Trump did nothing after that court order. An easier way for the U.S to maneuver through this tight spot is for America to bribe the ship’s captain to steer his ship towards a different destination and have another country compound it on behalf of America. The problem is, American tried the bribery method before with the previous Iranian shipment, offering the captain several million dollars in exchange for his cooperation, but the captain declined the offer. It was reported Brian Hook contacted a captain of the previous ships via email with the offer based on an American strategy called “reward for justice”.
