On October 4, an unidentified aerial target was intercepted near Hmeimim Air Base by Russian air defense systems.

According to the reports by the local Jableh News agency, at least one target, likely a drone, was shot down over the town of Jableh in the Syrian province of Latakia. The air defense system actuation at the Russian Khmeimim airbase was reported.

The attack attempt took place at the moment when a USAF RC-135U was circling around 50km from the Russian base.

The RC-135U is specifically configured to gather electronic and signals intelligence, with a particular focus on collecting data regarding adversaries’ radars and air defense networking nodes.

This type of aircraft collects information about electronic signatures to help commanders build so-called “electronic orders of battle” detailing the disposition of an opponent’s air defenses. This includes detecting and classifying threat emitters, and pinpointing their locations, among other electronic intelligence-gathering capabilities.

The US reconnaissance aircraft was spotted over the Syrian coast for the second day in a row. It was flying over the Hmeimim airfield and the Russian naval base in Tartus, having made about 18 flight circles.

A week ago, on September 27, the Russian Hmeimim airbase in Syria was targeted with another drone launched by militants in Greater Idlib. It was intercepted by the Russian Pantsir-S air defense system.

Militant attacks on Russian facilities in Syria do not go unpunished. The Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) and the Syrian Arab Army continue to strike at militant positions in Greater Idlib.

Early in the morning of October 4, SAA artillery units targeted militant positions near the city of Kabani in the north of Latakia province. A harsh response of the VKS is likely to follow in the coming hours.

If i understand the article Syrian airspace violated? if so why was the aircraft not shot down?

Daniel

Russian are nice guys,

TopGum

You misunderstood. Syrian airspace was not violated. It seems the US military is responsible for sending drones in the direction of the Russian airbase to collect data how exactly they defend themselves. We do not know if the Russian side is aware of those spy planes and if they somehow can disrupt their spy work. But it indicates, that US does not know much about Russian air defense technologies. They loose hegemony everywhere.

hailu

Syrian Air space is not violated. The plane is flying 50 kilometers from Syrian border. Even if it flies in Syrian air space it will not be shot down. American planes always do that. There is an agreement not to attack American asset.

Selbstdenker

i would have scramled two fighter jets to shaddow the plane and practise interceptions

Daniel

Well, first you have to win highest election in Russia,

TopGum

They maybe used electronic warfare to disrupt their work. But it seems they just stayed cool and did not bother with the spy plane. They know best what to do.

A.H.

Send a big airplane and provoke a turbulence so that the yankee spy plane fells in the sea. Putin is playing a dirty game. If Iran was securing the sky off Syria, all terrorist planes were downed without a warning !

TopGum

The spy plane did not violate Syrian airspace. Nothing to shoot down there. They just provoked Russian air defense to collect data on how the hell they detected and shoot that thing out of the sky. The still can’t comprehend how much better the Russian hardware is.

After so many years in Syria, I am fairly certain the Russians have learned all the american/zionist ploys.

They could probably remote land the rc-135 at a destination of their choosing if they wanted to. Typical Eastern restraint.

Dicksonrp

Well I will certainly say that it is good for the Russians. They allow the zio terrorist Americans to undermine the Syrian govt and taunt the Russians at the same time. This is by flying off the coast while directing drone attacks, NOT THE FIRST TIME while NOT SHOOTING DOWN THE AMERICAN PLANE. Bet they will do it again until some Russian soldiers pay work their lives. SHOOT DOWN ANY AMERICAN OR ISREALHELLI AIRCRAFT!!!

Erik

With the migrants comming in. The choosen ones need Syria as their new home… So, if the U.S. and Israel can not winn, they need to do something “different” . Remember, “they” always send in reconnaissance planes before the attack, since WW2..

Dick Von D'Astard

Russian Army should send a couple of armed drones into Al-Tanf.
