Relatives of people, who lost their lives in terrorist attacks that occurred in the US on September 11, 2001, have sued Saudi Arabia, accusing the kingdom’s authorities of supporting terrorists of the Al-Qaeda organization.

A class action lawsuit, which represents interests of more than 800 people, was filed in the federal court in New York’s Manhattan district on Monday.

According to the Hill news portal, the plaintiffs accuse the Saudi government of supporting terrorists, who organized the attack. In their view, Riyadh knew that at least three terrorists, who were citizens of the kingdom, had ties to Al-Qaeda.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is liable to plaintiffs for all damages resulting in the injuries and deaths in September 11th Attacks,” the suit said.

In this regard, relatives of the tragedy’s victims demand from the Middle Eastern monarchy material compensation for the caused damage.

In July of the last year, the US authorities declassified 28 pages of the report on the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The documents were declassified under pressure of relatives of the attacks’ victims. The published report indicated a possible connection between terrorists and representatives of the Saudi Arabia authorities, however, did not provide any evidence.

The attack of Al-Qaeda terrorists on the US took place on September 11, 2001. As a result, the World Trade Center was completely destroyed, the Pentagon building was seriously damaged.

According to unconfirmed data of a journalistic investigation of the Independent newspaper, the terrorists arrived in the US in 2000 and settled in the city of San Diego, where they learned to fly an aircraft. The Al-Qaeda agents obtained support of an imam of a local mosque, who was also linked with the terrorist organization.
