Recently, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), supported by the US-led coalition, liberated a number of villages from ISIS in Northern Raqqa. Al-Fatsah, Bir Sadr, Bin Hammud, Abu Kabra and Matmasraja are among them.
Initially, there have been reports that some “American fighters”, apparently US special operation forces, are among SDF ranks in order to coordinate the military operation.
However, the recent reports confirm that US special operation forces are participating in the clashes against the ISIS terrorist groups, de-facto, spearheading the Kurdish forces. They wear YPG/YPJ patches, in an alleged attempt to hide the fact of their presense. However, these guys hardly look as Kurds.

The only force deployed in Syria by an official request is the Russian military grouping. Even Iranian troops operate at an “unofficial” level.
Except for Hezbollah, which Assad has said is welcome. He also gave Lebanon’s and Syria’s and Iraq’s different Hezbollah groups permission to keep whatever they take on the battle fields of Syria. Even if it is equipment that use to belong to the Syrian army. If ISIS took it, then it is payment for liberating that equipment from ISIS. Syria has officially allowed Iranian trainers. But as for combat roles, you are correct. Though I suspect that Syria has been close to inviting Iran in, and Iran has been close to rushing in another 1,000 volunteers.
