US Special Operation Forces Carry Out Ground Raid North Of Syria's Deir Ezzor

Members of the US Special Forces have carried out a ground operation in the Syrian province of Deir Ezzor aimed at capturing leaders of the ISIS terrorist group, according to media reports and comments by US-led coalition officials.

The operation allegedly took place near some town north of the Deir Ezzor provincial capital on Sunday.

The Washington Post (January 9, 2017):

The troops, who landed on helicopters, spent about 90 minutes in the area, then left carrying Islamic State captives and bodies, according to witnesses quoted by the website Deir al-Zour 24, which monitors Islamic State activity in that province.

A U.S. official said U.S. forces intercepted a vehicle thought to be carrying senior Islamic State members, but declined to say whether the militants had been captured or killed. The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss an operation that the Pentagon has not yet publicly announced, said there were no American casualties.

The raid appeared to be an operation by the Expeditionary Task Force, a team of Special Operations forces based in Iraq that is charged with hunting down Islamic State leaders.

Col. John Dorrian, spokesman for the U.S.-led coalition, confirmed that the raid had taken place but declined to provide details or say whether any leaders had been seized.

“The Coalition can confirm a U.S. operation in the vicinity of Deir al-Zour [Deir Ezzor] on Jan. 8. The U.S. and the entire counter-ISIL Coalition will continue to pursue ISIL leaders wherever they are to ensure the security and stability of the region and our homelands,” he said in an email. ISIL is another name for the Islamic State.

Unconfirmed media reports say that the raid resulted in killing of over 20 ISIS members and capturing of some 2 persons in the area by US Special Operation Forces troops. However, this cannot be confirmed by photo or video evidence.

The US-led coalition has not released an official report about the operation.

Killing the evidence

AMHants

Precisely. Nice to know not the only one thinking along those lines.

Joseph Scott

While what you suggest is a possibility, it is also possible that 1st SFOD-D is taking advantage of the political situation (and their official mission mandate) to offer their nemeses at Langley a heartfelt “Screw you!” by taking out some of their pet terrorists. Delta Force and the CIA have completely opposed policies in the region, and thwart each other at every turn. Delta would like nothing better than to be given the green light to decapitate IS. All these twisted political schemes give them headaches.

Real Anti-Racist Action

The illegal Zionist invasion of sovereign Syria is clearly to either rescues their own CIA agents, or to eliminate evidence of Israel and the UK and USSA training and leading ISIS in a war against all Monotheist. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCKWDarNdGw

AMHants

Mix and match?

VGA

Good. They should do more of these so ISIS leaders keep their fighters back. And away from Deir Ezzor.

I think the interrogations will help them identify more targets, especially hostages.

hhabana

Wait till Trump gets in. My biggest concern for President Trump is the corrupt pigs in our country. I pray for his safety and sound decisions.

Ho Pw

Trump is no different from Bush or Obama. He is going to continue where Obama have left off. America’s objectives in the Middle East is the same with Trump as president. It may be even more worse. He is not going to make America great again. He is going to make the Zionist regime in Palestine great again. He have openly said that he is a BIG FAN of the Zionist regime in Palestine. He said he want the Middle East oil. Obama failed with his “Pivot to Asia” using Philippines as the scapegoat on the South China Sea dispute to confront China. I think Trump is going to use Taiwan to confront China.

janarddan

Most likely they airlifted the leaders, took away the bodies of dead NATO operatives working for Daesh. The fact that there have been no casualties on their side strongly suggests the above.

Xanatos

It is not strange to see the US go after isis leadership. But it is very strange to see the US assist the SAA in dEir Ezzor in any way.

Either a kurdish-American offensive will be beginning soon towards deir Ezzor, or the US is eliminating a rival mole in the ISIS organization. Isis is full of moles.

Ronald

The mole who grabbed the cash stash .

Bob

Would not trust what US forces are doing on ground anywhere near Deir Ezzor region, that is axis of territory they – NATO/GCC – need for their Qatar pipeline project.

goingbrokes

Probably picking up a Saudi prince who wants to go home. It has become too dangerous for the little puss because battlefield is not going to plan, so the natives are becoming restless.

Hassadnah Abraham

Kill ISIS?? No way…American are in process of evacuating ISIS leaders. That is more accurate

dr. Kadzija

what is the proof of this? they landed in the middle of territory of ISIS, used helychopters although ISIS shot down 2 SAA planes few days ago… story is not to convincing to me.. http://syria.liveuamap.com/en/2017/9-january-us-cjtf-confirms-special-forces-raid-did-take-place this looks only possible if they used those choppers to take a images of DeZ area to provide it to ISIL or to rescue some ISIL personel..othwerise ISIL would shot them down

abuqahwa

Where is Paveway to confirm LOCSTAT / LatLong Co-ordinates ?

dr. Kadzija

short video or some photos would be enough i believe

John Whitehot

they did not shoot down them, they destroyed them on the ground with artillery.

AMHants

Interesting. Have they got permission to be in Syria? Ironic how they were providing air cover for their friends, not that long ago. Now, a change in President and do they have to clean up any traces back to Obama and friends? Loose lips with stories to tell?

The Eye

Probably a russian spy among the ISIS liberation forces that needed to be eliminated.

abuqahwa

LOCATION ?? Not near the Kabr “Nuclear Reactor “bombed by Israelis in 2007 Operation Orchard ??

Behold a Pale Horse

Aimed at evacuating their men on the ground more like.

Paul Watchman Dawsi

Obama is looking for ISIS dinner guests at the whitehouse.

abuqahwa

Where is PavewayIV to supply exact LOCSTAT co-ordinates, very vague so far, very fishy

Antonio Popač

They didn’t do anything… They landed on wrong area, just between ISIS and Syrian Army positions… Syrian army evacuated them on safe place

Ho Pw

Probably due to intensive bombing by Russia and Syrian air forces, the US send its “special force” to rescue their colleagues who are advising ISIS fighters against Syrian army out of Deir Ezzor.

PZIVJ1943

The bombing of SAA at Deir Ezzor was not a joke. They lost heavy equipment which can not be replaced with any airlift. SAA will have to make up the difference in bodies.

John

This has the look of something very weird. They were able to intercept a single vehicle in the middle of the desert but, … completely missed regiments of ISIS forces, which included armor, moving through the desert in that general neck of the woods while on their way to take Palmyra. This does not look convincing at all. The ‘US officials’ should have just kept their mouths completely shut about this in my opinion. I look at a story like this and wonder if there is anybody left in charge, who still has their head firmly attached and functioning? The fact that I have seen this kind of behavior by US functionaries too many times, gives me no sense the story is false and SF is making it up. Too many US employees can’t keep their hands off the stupid button. A good evening to all.

PZIVJ1943

This story may be about US special forces taking out ISUS leader group between Raqqa and Deir Ezzor. Bodies where taken away, so Daesh is is not sure if any are captured or dead. Picture this: Special ops move in for silent ambush at night and are supported with helicopter gunships (intel is good). Does this upset you? I do not agree with US/ISUS conspiracy theory. You need to prove your point of this discussion. Something beyond agreeing with everybody else!
