On June 29th, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced that the European Union Ambassador Isabel Brilhante Pedrosa to Caracas had 72 hours to leave Venezuela.
He made the call while speaking at the National Journalism Prize and “denounced the interventionist actions of Spain and the European Union (EU) against the South American country.”

“I have decided to give the European Union Ambassador in Caracas 72 hours to leave our country. Enough of European colonialism against Venezuela, that’s enough!” explained Maduro.
The measure comes after the European bloc issued sanctions against Venezuelan government leaders.
“Today the European Union issued a resolution sanctioning Venezuelans who, being part of state institutions, respect the Constitution, sanctioning the National Assembly leadership because it has refused to carry out orders from the EU Embassy in Caracas,” Maduro said.
“Prepare yourselves, colonialist, supremacist and racist gentlemen, because in Venezuela there are going to be free and transparent parliamentary elections with the participation of thousands of candidates,” said President Maduro.
Maduro underlined that US-Proclaimed Interim President Juan Guaidó and his small group continue to violate the Constitution systematically, “they do not represent even a particle of what is the democratic diversity of a country that wants a future, and that is going to conquer it,” he said.
“Every day, the American empire and the remnants of the former European empire hit us, but here we are fresh and victorious. They have not been able to and will not be able to deal with us!” denounced the Venezuelan president.
This expulsion followed the announcement by the EU that 11 Venezuelan officials were added to the bloc’s sanctions list.
“The individuals added to the list are responsible notably for acting against the democratic functioning of the National Assembly, including by stripping the parliamentary immunity of several members of its members, not least its president, Juan Guaidó. Actions motivating the decision for listing also include initiating politically motivated prosecutions and creating obstacles to a political and democratic solution to the crisis in Venezuela, as well as serious violations of human rights and restrictions of fundamental freedoms, such as freedom of press and speech.”
The total number of sanctioned Venezuelan officials sits at 36, and it includes a travel and an asset freeze.
Among the sanctioned officials, there is opposition legislator Luis Parra, who backed by Maduro is contesting the leadership of the opposition controlled National Assembly with its president Juan Guaido.
