Leader of the defenders of Deir Ezzor, Republican Guard General Issam Zahreddine is in touch with the Syrian Arab Army Tiger Forces advancing against ISIS terrorists near the city of Deir Ezzor. The Tiger Forces advance is led by General Suheil al-Hassan.
Why not build trenches instead of those sand barriers? They offer much better protection against tanks and artillery.
My guess: the ground is too hard for trench digging. The British in WW2 in Egypt and Libya sometimes resorted to sandbags and stones for defensive positions. The British Army term for these is “sangar”.
Or perhaps trenches are more suited for clay soils, and sand trenches would just erode and fill up very quickly? I don’t know.
I hadn’t thought of that. It is possible that is the reason. I tend to favour my theory though. I found this comment: “toward the isolated fortress town of deir al zor 80-90 miles away across the hardpan stony desert of eastern Syria. ” [from: http://turcopolier.typepad.com/sic_semper_tyrannis/2017/07/bloody-brown-tracks-to-deir-al-zor-.html ]
Zahreddine is a very capable commander. You have to be to survive siege in DZ since 2013.
Anybody can translate what he’s exactly saying?
Alepo and Deir Ezzor soldier’s should get metals and money. To guard a base for year’s which in constant attack is really exhausting and requires dedication and commitment.
We need to tell SyrianPartisangirl to make a video on Deir Ezzor in the future after it is liberated (hopefully). She made a spectacular video on the liberation of Aleppo. Whenever I watch it, it gives me goosebumps. I hope if she ever decides to make a video on Deir Ezzor, she makes it even better than the Aleppo video. SAA lost the battle 3 years ago when Obama bombed and killed 100 SAA soldiers who were fighting ISIS. (Of course after this incident, the US media said it was a mistake and they stated that they actually were trying to bomb ISIS which was complete bullshit) ISIS took over Deir Ezzor, but the people did not give up, they (the people) were held in Deir Ezzor by ISIS for 3 years. They were killed, tortured, starved, etc. But their heroes have now finally returned. Their President even send them a message (a engineer in Deir Ezzor used a projector to show it to the people)

And now the people of Deir Ezzor are celebrating for the arrival of their heroes. (just like how they arrived for the people of Aleppo, Palmyra, etc when the people needed them the most).

Now it’s Deir Ezzor’s turn to be liberated. People of Deir Ezzor:- Assad has already heard your cries and prayers, but now he will make the enemy cry before you. He will make the enemy suffer twice as much as they suffered you You all waited 3 years for this wonderful day. Your patience will finally be rewarded https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/5bf9f05c566854bfd2d18afa26cb23417310ba59a7ee6d0cd58d29d0228f426f.jpg There should be a movie made on Deir Ezzor tbh. Such a epic comeback of the SAA, it’s allies and the Tiger forces.
Suheil visits Issam for a fine cup of tea before both Issam and Suheil are going on to save the homeland.
