On January 31, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) captured 17 militants during clashes in the southwestern countryside of Aleppo.
According to the U-News Agency, the militants, all members of al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), were captured near the town of Qal’ajiyah, where heavy clashes are now taking place.
The Beirut-based news agency released videos showing the captured militants being transported by the army to a detention facility.
Earlier on Januart 31, the army captured the areas of Rajm Judran, Khirbat Kharas and Tulul al-Hazmr as well as the town of al-Khalidya in southwest Aleppo, thus imposing fire control of a large part of the M5 highway.
The SAA, supported by Lebanon’s Hezbollah, is now advancing towards Qal’ajiyah and the nearby town of al-Qarasi. The army reportedly captured key positions in the two towns, including al-Qarasi’s main hilltop.
A day earlier, hundreds of Turkish-backed militants arrived in Aleppo city’s outskirt to support HTS and other terrorist groups in the region. These reinforcements were apparently useless.
