Violence Ramps Up In Hong Kong Protests On China's National Day

On October 1st, China’s National Day, protests in Hong Kong saw a significant increase in violence. Notably, MSM is especially vocal about an 18-year-old rioter who was shot in the chest with a live round by a riot police officer. He is in stable condition, without any threat to his life.

There are numerous videos and pictures.

One of them clearly shows that a crowd of rioters surrounded the police officer and were a legitimate threat to his life, petrol bombs were being thrown at police, and they continued doing so after the incident.

Police said the officer involved was under serious threat and acted in accordance with official guidelines. The most aggressive “pro-Democracy protesters” vowed to ramp up vandalism and attacks on police officers in response to the incident.

Protesters have previously been hit with bean bags rounds and rubber bullets and officers have fired live rounds in the air, but this was the first time a demonstrator had been shot with a live round.

A police vehicle was attacked by demonstrators carrying iron rods.

More than 100 people were injured, Hong Kong’s Hospital Authority said. Police arrested more than 180 people.

The pro-Hong Kong government Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong condemned the violence and urged the government to impose emergency laws to stop the unrest.

96 people appeared in court, charged with rioting on September 29th. There were protests, both in support of the authorities and against them in front of the court, with little clashes there.

MTR, the metro-station company, shut nearly 50 stations on to stop protesters from moving around, but also possibly because stations were blocked and demolished in the past, by the rioters.

Demonstrators have stepped up attacks on MTR (which is a private company), which has been blamed for closing stations at the government’s behest.

In response to the protests, sate-owned CGTN released a motivational video to Hong Kong’s protesters, telling them that Shenzhen’s success “could be yours too.”

“When you are on the right track, positive changes will occur,” the text said. “Embracing the Greater Bay Area, Hong Kong’s future will be better.”

What distinguished the latest video from other propaganda material was its direct call to the city’s younger generations, on whom, it said, Hong Kong’s growth and success depended.

“The miraculous change [in Shenzhen] took place because of the diligent and ambitious young generations,” it said.

It was also not a veiled threat, it didn’t show any riot police, or military personnel, or anything of the sort.

HK police are useless and weak!…not only USA police..also many countries wont allow such kind of violence vs Police and HK assets!…I hope China army enter sooner than later and clean all riots before that gangs destroy HK!

Metal bars are lethal weapons at close range. Someone can be killed or seriously injured quickly. As happened many times in Ukraine. Attacking someone with a gun with a lethal weapon at close range is just asking to get shot. The rioter had it coming to him.
