Wagner fighters took control of the village of Barkhovka located on the north-western outskirts of Bakhmut.
Before the outbreak of hostilities, about a hundred people lived in Berkhovka. The village is located north of Artemovsk (also known as Bakhmut) and is adjacent to the previously liberated Paraskovievka.
The control of the village was claimed by the head if Wagner Yevgeny Prigozhin on February 24:
“Berkhovka is completely under our control. The units of the Wagner PMCs fully control Berkhovka.”
The preliminary reports on Russian control of the village came on late February 23. The mop up operation is ongoing.
The control of Berkhovka allows Wagner fighters to strengthen their pressure on Ukrainian forces in Dubovo-Vasilevka and continue their storm of Yagodnoye. This means the ongoing encirclement of the city of Bakhmut.
Earlier, the Wagner fighters complained on the lack of ammunition in their units. This resulted in a conflict between the PMC and the Russian Defence Ministry.

On February 23, the conflict was settled. Yevgeny Prigozhin confirmed that the decision on the supply of ammunition for PMCs was made and the problem was solved.
Thus, an increase in the assault operations of Wagner units should be expected. The pace of their advance, including to the south of Bakhmut, may increase in the near future.
