Washington's Negotiator With Taliban: US Does Not Seek Troops 'Withdrawal Agreement'

ILLUSTRATIVE IMAGE

The US does not seek “a withdrawal agreement”, US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad said on June 19 adding that Washington’s  goal is a “comprehensive peace agreement”.

Most likely, Khalilzad’s remarks were a response to a statement by the Taliban’s Qatar office spokesman Suhail Shaheen. The Taliban representative said on June 18 that the United States has “accepted” a full troops withdrawal from Afghanistan.

“The exact date will be announced today or tomorrow that when the seventh round [of talks] will start. It is clear that when the Americans announce their decision on the timeline of the withdrawal of their forces, it will open the way for intra-Afghan talks so that we can decide on the future government and intra-Afghan talks,” Shaheen said.

You can call me Al

Get the fuck out Yanks. The World has finished with you.

Now the Afghan war will start. Washington does not want peace in the world. No withdrawal no peace.

That is the only thing the Taliban wants. it’s like the N. Koreans negotiating and saying that nuclear armed ICBM’s that can reach Washington DC are off the table.

The only thing the US governments have understood is a real threat to the American mainland. I would think that if Germany or Japan had had that capability in WW2 that the Yanks would have stayed at home.

There is only any real profit in war if ones homeland is not attacked and all the fighting takes place elsewhere.

Yinon Plan comes first.

Normal posturing during a negotiation. “Peace with honor”, yada yada yada. Not that I care for the Taliban, but at least they’re making the orcs leave. Whether some US bigwig likes that or not is not decisive in the end.

Afghanistan merely demonstrates that the collapsing empire is impotent

Ivan Freely

The US will not withdraw from Afghanistan. It’s needed to wage war against Iran. However, it’s going to be a pain for the US to get supplies to a land locked nation.
