Early on April 10, Israeli security forces carried out large-scale raids in Jenin, the nearby village of Ya’bad and the Balata refugee camp in the West Bank.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said that special forces, including troops from the elite Shayetet 13 navy unit, took part in the raids.
In Ya’bad, IDF troops raided the home of Diaa Hamarsheh, who shot and killed five people in the city of Bnei Brak, near Tel Aviv, on March 28. During the raid, Palestinian gunmen clashed with IDF troops, including opening fire and hurling explosive devices. However, no soldiers were hurt. The IDF reportedly informed the family of Hamarsheh that their house will be demolished.
IDF troops also carried out raids in Tulkarem, where they faced resistance. According to the IDF, Israeli forces returned fire after Palestinian gunmen shot at soldiers from a vehicle. No soldiers were hurt in that incident either.
The Palestinian Authority Health Ministry said that 11 Palestinians were wounded in clashes with Israeli soldiers across the West Bank.
According to the IDF, a total of 20 Palestinians were arrested during the raids. The military claimed that the detainees were involved in “terrorist activities”.

The situation in the West Bank escalated even further in the morning, when a Palestinian woman was shot dead by Israeli soldiers in the town of Husan.
The IDF said that the woman had approached Israeli soldiers “in a suspicious manner.” Later however, a spokesperson for the military confirmed that she was unarmed.
“The force opened fire as part of a suspect arrest procedure that included firing into the air. After she did not stop, the soldiers fired at her lower body,” the IDF said in a statement.
The woman, identified as Ghada Ibrahim Ali al-Sabateen, 47, was rushed by Palestinian medics to a Beit Jala hospital, where she died of blood loss from a torn artery in her thigh.

The unjustified killing of al-Sabateen was widely condemned by Palestinian factions, including the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) who called the incident a “clear embodiment of terrorism” against the Palestinian People.
A day earlier, a member of the PIJ was killed in the West Bank refugee camp of Jenin while confronting an Israeli force that was raiding the house of Ra’ad Hazem, who killed three people and wounded several others in Dizengoff Street in Tel Aviv late on April 7.
Tensions in the West Bank will likely grow even more in the upcoming few days. Israel is not planning to slow down its security operations in the region any time soon.
