As it turned out, the NATO tactical systems, which had been well proven in local combat operations in the Middle East and Afghanistan against poorly armed Islamic militant groups, were inefficient against heavily armed regular army forces. In the hope of preventing a catastrophe in Bakhmut, the AFU command can only send new units there, while reducing its capabilities in other parts of the battlefront.

The encirclement from the SW high ground is happening and right now this is a bad position for the Ukrainians … they cannot afford these losses for trying to hold on to an untenable position. The big problem is that just like Popasna, if Bakhmut breaks there will be an entire defensive line that needs to be abandoned. That is why freshly trained people are thrown into this battle desperately.

NATO training means jack sheet when you are fighting an army rather than a few civilians with an AK47 and a prayer mat. NATO training is basically all about cleaning up after the US Airforce has done some shock and awe on a backward nation, the problem is the US Airforce are scared sheetless about Russian air defences.
All NATO tech has been developed for counterinsurgency, that is basically police actions against civilians, unarmed, with less organization than a drug cartel, no intelligence and generally not even food or running water…Even so the “great” NATO warriors managed to get so many soldiers mutilated, IED and incendiary bombs are too much for them .

Most NATO tech that was projected (!) after that, especially since 2001, are for counterinsurgency. In regard to COIN training and rifleman-school: the Bundeswehr broadly introduced the COIN oriented nSAK (Neues Schießausbildungskonzept / New Shooting Training Concept) just like 5 years ago and before that it was, besides for a few specialized formations where nSAK was used since late-2000s, the same riflemen school as in WW2 and before. However, the Bundeswehr even after that differentiates between low and high intensity combat and for high intensity combat they still use the old one. Some NATO-armies however do not anymore.

In the Vietnam war, after USA withdrew their air forces after signing the peace deal, South Vietnam forces, even with masses of donated US material, collapsed in a few months.
