Medical care has always been very important during combat operations. It is provided to soldiers for their speedy recovery and restoration of their ability to fight. Nowadays, in view of the development of humanitarian law, doctors perform their duties not only to help their soldiers, but also to help prisoners of war. In this regard, according to all rules, doctors must acquire immunity from blows from both sides of the conflict. In the Ukrainian war, this is not always the case.
As military presence of Russians forces increases in South-Eastern parts of the Ukraine and the clashes between them and Ukrainian forces become more violent, the number of the wounded on the both sides is getting incredibly high. As we should note with a great regret, military losses are going hand-by-hand with a big amount of casualties and wounded among civilians who had no choice to stay right inside or around the fight zones. As Russia and self-proclaimed Donetsk Republic report – their territory, including the biggest city of Donetsk is under permanent artillery and rocket strikes, which makes the quantity of civilians in need for medical assistance rise progressively day by day.
Russia keeps demonstrating the support to the heads of controlled territories and to the civilians, so a week ago has established a mobile hospital in the part of Donetsk Republic allied forces gained control within last three month. Now it is operating from the territory of Starobyshevskaya Central Hospital. The mobile part of the hospital includes 4 mobile intensive care units, 8 all-terrain 4×4 SUVs, 3 class-C emergency cars, 2 mobile surgeries and 2 dressing rooms. All units are fully electrically autonomous and are provided with all the up-to-date diagnostic equipment. The request for the hospital came from the Ministry of Defense of Russia and the project itself has been implemented by the Federal Medical-Biological Agency of Russia. In spite the doctors operating the hospital claim that they provide equal treatment both for Russian and Ukrainian combatants, the emergency units have become an easy target for Ukrainian troops. You can see on photos one of the SUVs which has been shot from an automatic rifle by Ukrainian troops during its routine medical mission – carrying wounded soldiers to the hospital.

Since the national battalions claim that they do not consider surrender to the Russians as an option, they seem also consider being saved by Russian medics also as an act of treason. This might explain their attitude to the medical units from Russia or LDPR which are of no use to them.

Soldiers can legally travel in ambulance only when protecting ambulance operation.
