Yemeni Forces Downed F-15 Jet Of Saudi-led Coalition Over Sanaa - Media

almasirah.net

The Houthis have shot down a F-15 jet belonging to the Saudi-led coalition over the Yemeni city of Sanaa, the pro-Houthi TV channel Al Masirah reported on January 8.

According to the report, the warplane was downed by a surface-to-air missile while it was boming civilian targets in the area.

On January 7, the Houthis claimed that they had downed a Panavia Tornado multirole fighter jet belonging to the Saudi-led coalition over Kitaf wa al-Boqe’e district of the province of Saada.

If the both reports are confirmed, this may indicate that the Houthis had received some additional military supplised that allowed to increase their air-defense capabilities.

We can confirm this if the KSA and friends got noisy again.

Garga

Now that’s a good news from Yemen. I try to not get too excited until confirmation, pictures, something.

If true, I’d like to know about the pilot.

John Mason

Other media outlets states that the pilots are safe, unconfirmed.

Barba_Papa

Quick! To the 'Blame Iran' mobile! Expect outrage by Nikki Haley in three…., two….., one…..

Joe

Ya… Nikki would be pulling her hair in UNSC …. proof of Iranian aggression to get jets shot down in Yemen.

No logic? Well when have they have any logic these past year?

Gary Sellars

It makes sense that Iran might want to test their domestically-produced SAMs in Yemen. If they have, they’ll no doubt be pleased with the result.

Garga

They WILL blame Iran anyway, so Iran might as well do it. In fact it would be ironic if Iran does all the things they blame it for, like funding, arming and supporting the Arabian and Bahraini Shi’as and Yemenis, just like Saudis do with Iranian Kurd, Arab and Baluchi separatist. The only difference would be: – The separatist (or revolutionary) population and percentage in KSA and Bahrain would be hundreds-fold more than Iranian separatists. – Shi’as aren’t fond of terror acts, unlike Kurd and Baluchi separatists and MEK.

chris chuba

True, Iran is between a rock and a hard place.

If they supply weapons the coalition justifies their atrocities, if they don’t supply weapons the coalition continues their atrocities and the Houthis and non-Sunnis in the region feel they are abandoned to the Takfiris.

Nigel Maund

This is a possibility!…….If you’re right then the war maybe about to change. The steady destruction of KSA airpower via MANPADS would be the same gamechanger that STINGERS missiles were for the Russians in Afghanistan. Loss of airpower would seriously undermine Saudi military morale. If the Houthi’s also got KORNET / TOW anti- tank weapons as well then matters could really change in Yemen.

Matt Lazarus

The Pakistani pilots will simply refuse to fly, as Sudanese infantry units which Saudis paid for, refused to fight. There are no Saudi pilots capable of conducting combat missions. Saudi regime has never trusted its own people, and never provided its military with proper military training. If you had a well-trained private army of say 5,000 to 10,000 men, you could probably take over whole of Saudi Arabia in relatively short time. Saudi army would not put up a fight.

Nigel Maund

Fair comment! The KSA Royal Family are scared of their own populace and that’s for sure. If the Kingdom fell, the scale of the backlash would mean that the KSA became the most radical Sunni State of them all and almost certianly Wahabi extremists would seize control. The place would decend into total chaos as the expats of all colours would bail out and the infrastructure would totally collapse.

Matt Lazarus

I hope expats have their Plans B ready and identified escape exits. Could be very bloody. All airports will be closed.

I just read a report about the current KSA ranks and I’m not surprised that even the advisor sent from US/Israel says they’re untrainable. Due to their culture and upbringing they’re not a people that able to receive criticism. Right now they completely relying on just how many munitions they could bring them and hope that their pilots (the one referred as untrainable) used them correctly.

Graeme Rymill

“There are no Saudi pilots capable of conducting combat missions.”

That’s not how the Saudis tell it:

“an aircraft of Saudi Royal Air Forces fell due to a technical failure in the area of Abyan in Yemen while carrying out one of operational tasks to support the war against Al-Qaeda terrorist organization, which resulted in the martyrdom of Wing Commander (Lieutenant Colonel) Muhanna bin Saad Al-Baiz.”

Dr. Ronald Cutburth

My late uncle started the original Saudi Arabia air force under contract. Their pilots would have been trained correctly then. He also had a contract to fly the king and his family around. That is when he found the Saudi King family are jews. That should explain why they always support Israel.

dontlietome

Thank you for that interesting bit of intel Ronald. I have worked in Saudi for over 3 years, and encountered , during my flights to and from, ladies of Israeli and Jewish origin. They all told me that they never had any trouble getting visa’s in spite of travelling alone there. So I always suspected a connection between the 2 countries, but was never really able to establish to what level their contacts were. Well the cat is out of the bag, and kissing cousins they are !!!!!

Sinbad2

Although there are Saudi pilots, many are retired USAF and RAF pilots. The Saudis rely on mercenaries, Columbian mercs appear to be quite common among the ground forces in Yemen. Also the US was flying ISIS fighters from Syria to the KSA.

One would need good intelligence to find out who are Wahabi radicals in the upper ranks of the Army. The Houthis have shown the Saudi army are not well trained.

John Whitehot

anti tank missiles don’t change the outcome of wars, nor MANPADS, as airstrikes can be performed well above their reach.

The Houthis successes aren’t owed to their missiles, but to them being an effective combat force. Exactly the opposite of what can be said about most Syrian “moderates”, who are nothing but parasites which formed with the only aim to provoke airstrikes by NATO and then take the warspoils. Lol, look what happened to them.

Weldon Cheek

I wouldnt put the houthis and the shitty arsewipes “fighting” in syria in the same sentence,if there was even half the nounce of the houthis fighting in syria then the SAA would be in a whole other world of hardship.

John Whitehot

yes, morally I agree. But be assured, sometimes people write or read hidden assumptions

Sinbad2

From the video it looks like at least some of the equipment was made by FLIR of Oregon USA.

RichardD

If true, it may be an assist from an external player familiar with Saudi air activity that provided both weaponry and targeting assistance.

FlorianGeyer

It could even be MI6 :) maybe,maybe,maybe :)

Or even a delivery of missiles from the US that the US Military dropped in the wrong country/continent due to a map reading error :)

RichardD

Your guess is as good as mine, but if true, somebody wants to slow down the Saudi offensive. The Houthis are getting in the same position as the Syrians were in before foreign intervention pushed back the invasion. We may be seeing the beginning of a similar effort in Yemen.

FlorianGeyer

The Yemeni people have suffered to much for Israeli hegemony in the region.

Lets hope so,what id give to see the saudi mercenaries getting strung up by their ballbags from the lamp posts! Whilst at the same time the jihadis in syria were being rounded up and dispatched with one in the back of the skull and a mass grave!

Kolarov

How the hell are the Houthis getting STA missiles? Has the blockade been lifted?

gold37

My exact question, they must. Probably through Oman and desert roads.

chris chuba

Southfront has had articles on this before.

Yemen had a large supply of air to air missiles prior to the civil war. The Houthis took the ones with infrared homing, mounted them on pickup trucks and when planes come into the area point them in the general direction, launch them and hope for the best. They have a low hit rate. Maybe they modified them to be a little better by giving them a rocket boost to give them a better range. If the IRGC is helping them make the mods, I’ll try to hold back my tears.

goingbrokes

Someone has found a way to supply anti-air systems to the Ansarullah movement. It’s got to be good to keep those bombing runs against civilians back a little. The Houthis are very resourceful.

Joe

They do not have to smuggle in, they just need to supply the knowledge and the small electronics parts

The main missile body can be easily built in Yemen

anonim

R-27T, R73 are just one possibility.

Potato Potato

First time an F-15 has ever been shot down. Impressive.

Daniel Miller

ummm no its not F15’s have been shot down over Libya as well

19/20 January 1991:F-15E-46-MC, 88‑1692, c/n 1101/E076, of the 336th FS, 4th TFW, USAF, was shot down by a Soviet made SA-2E missile during Operation Desert Storm. Both crew members ejected and were POWs.

17/18 January 1991: F-15E-46-MC, 88‑1689, c/n 1098/E073, of the 336th FS, 4th TFW, USAF, was shot down by anti-aircraft artillery on the first day of operation Desert Storm.

Raptar Driver

It is rumored that 3 F-15’s were shot down over Bosnia in 94-95 by a then experimental Su-35.

BL

Possible confirmation of the news?
