On March 4, Yemeni Houthis from the Ansar Allah movement launched a missile attack on the Israeli ship MSC SKY in the Arabian Sea. The attack was declared by the military representative of the movement.
“The Yemeni Navy conducted an operation in which the Israeli ship MSC SKY was attacked in the Arabian Sea by several anti-ship missiles. The strike was accurate and direct,” the official said.
The spokesman for the movement clarified that the attack was launched “just a few hours after a high-quality operation, during which missile forces and the air force launched several ballistic missiles and drones at a number of enemy American ships in the Red Sea.”
On March 4, the British Navy’s Maritime Trade Coordination Center reported the attack on a ship 91 nautical miles southeast of the Yemeni port of Aden. According to the British company Ambrey, which deals with maritime security issues, the target was a container ship, on board of which a fire broke out.
After the escalation of the conflict in the Gaza Strip, the Ansar Allah movement warned that it would strike at Israeli territory and would not allow ships linked to it to pass through the waters of the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait until the operation in the Palestinian enclave stops. Since mid-November 2023, the Houthis have attacked dozens of vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
