On September 23, Kurdish forces in Syria released several videos documenting some of their recent attacks on the Turkish military and its proxies in the northern region of the country.
The People’s Protection Units (YPG) announced in a statement that its unit carried out five attacks on Turkish forces on September 16, 18, 20 and 21. The faction, which is the core of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), said that the attacks were a response to the September 16 Turkish drone strikes which killed five fighters of the SDF near the town of Ain Issa in the northern Raqqa countryside. Two of the casualties were YPG members.
The media center of the YPG shared footage showing two attacks with anti-tank guided missiles. One of the attacks targeted a Turkish armored vehicle, while the other hit a house where Syrian militants were gathered.
The YPG claimed that its attacks killed eight Turkish service members and 11 Syrian militants. 12 other militants were allegedly wounded.
From its side, the Afrin Liberation Forces, an alleged proxy of the SDF, said that its cells shelled three Turkish bases and attacked a unit of Syrian militants in the northern Aleppo countryside on September 15, 19 and 20.
The Kurdish guerilla group released videos documenting an indirect fire attack that targeted a Turkish border post to the north of Afrin on September 15, and another that hit a base of the Turkish military near the town of Kaljibrin on September 20.
According to the ALF’s claims, the attacks killed nine Turkish service members and wounded seven others. Four Syrian militants were allegedly killed and five others were wounded in the same attacks.
Turkey carried out two waves of airstrikes on SDF positions in northern and northeastern Syria in response to the recent attacks by the YPG and the ALF. However, this was not apparently enough to deter Kurdish forces.
The repeated attacks by the SDF and its proxies could eventually force Turkey to go on with its threats a launch a new invasion into Syria. The Turkish military and its proxies have been preparing for a large-scale operation against Kurdish forces in Syria since last May.
Yet they rank Turkey top 5 every year… Also, it is funny how one of the NATO members supports Wahhabis and the other supports Kurd gangs.
