YPG Claims Turkish Army Captured No Village In Afrin Area

Support SouthFront

On January 21, the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) announced that its fighters repelled several attacks of the Turkish Army and its proxies from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) north of the city of Afrin in the Syrian province of Aleppo. The YPG also claimed that Turkish forces were not able to capture any village.

Meanwhile, pro-Turkish sources say that at least 3 villages were seized by the Turkish Army.

According to the Kurdish Hawar News Agency (ANHA), YPG fighters killed more than 15 members of the Turkish-backed FSA groups and injured dozens others while repelling the attacks.

Meanwhile, Turkish sources said that warplanes of the Turkish Air Force (TAF) conducted more airstrikes on positions of the YPG around Afrin, including an ammo depot.

The sources also revealed that the TAF is using a Bayraktar TB-2 unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) in its aerial operations over Afrin.

The YPG said that 11 civilians were killed and 16 others were injured in the Turkish bombardment on Afrin area. However, the Kurdish force didn’t provide any information regarding its loses.

From its side, the YPG launched more rockets on the city of Kilis in southern Turkey. The Turkish Anadolu Agency reported that 37 Turkish civilians were injured in the YPG’s rocket attacks on southern Turkey.

2 rockets hit Turkey’s Reyhanli:

The Turkish Army will likely deploy more forces and armored units towards Afrin in the upcoming days to speed up its attack on the Kurdish militias there.

i remeber, kurds flad like rabbits. only turkish and yankee army stopped them at kobani. kurds are same shit soldiers as saa.

dutchnational

Dear Solomon, YPG forces in Kobane in late 2014 were both underequipped and undermanned (because of participating in the defense of Yezidis august 2014), while IS was flush with heavy weapons taken in Mosul in juli 2014.

They decided they could not seriously defend the villages of the countryside there, retreating to the (only) city of Kobane. There they fought valiantly against IS, after a few weeks supported by US bombardments. The bombings broke the back of IS there. Up to that period YPG had fought for already 2.5 years with growing success gainst AAS, JAN, IS and FSA.

From that day onwards, YPG forces have expanded rapidly with more and more medium equipment and more proffesssionalism and have expanded their area manyfold. USAF was important, but only ground forces can gain and hold areas, which is something TSK is now finding out in Afrin.

Turkey is the West’s biggest mistake. Time to cut them off once and for all from the alliance.

>>The Turkish Army will likely deploy more forces and armored units towards Afrin in the upcoming days to speed up its attack on the Kurdish militias there.<<

Amateurs! You deploy overwhelming force BEFORE launching your attack. Not after. In fact, if you have to bring in more troops you basically admit that you don't have enough force in theater to do the job. Instead of all this piecemeal deployment of a few tanks here, some APC's there, they should have gathered whole divisions. At least a whole army corps.

I do hope that the Turkish army was better before the purges, because this rank amateurism reflects badly on their army and the country.

GSi2018

Well that is exactly how euphrates shield went wrong… they didnt learn. They think waving flags and posting cool staged pictures will make them win.

Barba_Papa

That’s what you get for placing more value on loyalty over actual competence. Proof of loyalty (waving flags and cool staged pictures) become more important then actual success. The Leader demands success that he can show to the uninformed masses, the commander cannot deliver, so…… fake news for the win!

Feudalism Victory

My money is on failure followed by bloody grinding stalement followed by assad joining forces and incorporating syrian kurd survivors.

Bill Wilson

That’s a mountainous region with few decent roads crossing the border. The Turk field commanders most likely are testing SDF defenses to reduce men and material losses.

Barba_Papa

That’s assuming that Turkish commanders are actually competent. Considering Erdogan’s purges I doubt that’s the case.

Jens Holm

Youór point is wrong. More Like FSA are the only ones in Afrin at the ground.

The situation is getting crazy. I mean turkey decleared the start of menbij operation. Ok this is good because manbij kurds are with the direct surport and under direct protection from the us. But this is insane. To open up two fronts would not be a good idea.

I am curious what the us next move will be.

Bill Wilson

Watch the football playoffs while the SDF bloodies Tayyip’s nose.

Solomon Krupacek

this is 1 front. fronts are usually longer than the whole syrian northern border. the second turkish army eats the 20 000 covey mountain gipsies.

Thinking wwII tactics, which will not work anyway. Think Yugoslavia WWII, partisan winning against SS and Wehrmacht.

So far, YPG puts up a credible defense.

Dang Turks seem desperate, I think in a week you might see this start to go the other direction in favor of YPG. No one could justify stopping them if they aren’t the ones who provoked the attack. I could see this bringing down erdogan.

Military sources stated that the total distance covered by the Turkish Armed Forces inside Afrin has been over 5 km and that the total number of liberated villages from Pyd/Pkk terrorist group has been 9 so far. (7:30 pm Local Time)

Turkey and its press concentrate on a war of words :

-Turkey defending itself against kurdish terrorist attacks, daily from Afrin (fact : not once) – Syrian so called interim government attacking Manbij (fact : not up till now) – Jaysh al Thuwar joining Turkey (fact : denied by the partly kurdish JAT) – Many positions and villages taken (fact : almost none or completely none) – Afrin will be taken in days (so 3 days left?)

ANF says an YPG counterattack retook Shingal (Yezidi?) village and all other attacks repelled, over 5 tanks destroyed.

If this continues, which is unlikely given Turkish superiority in numbers and heavy material, this will become a very costly war for Turkey, even more so if offered PUK forces will indeed be deployed to Afrin.

YPG shelling Turkish areas is a good way of demonstrating that not only Afrin will suffer. Demonstrating both to Turkish media, Erdogan and to the turkish voters supporting this colonial attack on their neighbour.

Domenic Patrone

No village was captured in the Afrin Area as they’re not REALLY fighting there. The assault is a ruse to lure Assad and Hezbollah, and Iran up north. In behind, a riot will break out and Assad will find himself surrounded again. As well, the forces facing Turkey’s, should confronted from behind and left side more or less.
