The Russian military repelled more attacks by Kiev forces in the Kursk direction over the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Defense reported on September 4.
The military’s Sever Group of Forces repelled two attacks close to the settlements of Malaya Loknya and Komarovka, the ministry said in a briefing, adding that Kiev forces were also prevented from advancing near the settlements of Korenevo, Olgovka and Pogrebki.
One Ukrainian armored fighting vehicle and three motor vehicles were destroyed during the failed attacks. Two Ukrainian troops also surrendered.
The ministry also said that Russian air and artillery strikes hit Ukraine’s 22nd, 61st mechanized brigades, 80th, 82nd air assault brigades, 92nd Assault Brigade and the 1st National Guard Brigade near the settlements of Apanasovka, Borki, Vishnyovka, Viktorovka, Gordeyevka, Krasnooktyabrskoye, Knyazhy Pervy, Kubatkin, Lyubimovka, Martynovka, Malaya Loknya, Novoivanovka, Orlovka, Obukhovka, Snagost and Uspenovka.
Other strikes targeted reserves of the 22nd, 115th mechanized brigades, 82nd, 95th air assault brigades, 92nd Assault Brigade, 1st National Guard Brigade, 101st, 103rd and the 129th territorial defense brigades close to the settlements of Belopolye, Vorozhba, Veliky Bobrik, Glukhov, Miropolye, Novye Basy, Orlovka, Pavlovka, Sumy, Esman, Yunakovka and Yampol in the Ukrainian region of Sumy, which borders Kursk.
“Over the past 24 hours, the AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] losses amounted to up to 450 troops and 17 units of armored hardware, including one tank, one infantry fighting vehicle, 15 armored fighting vehicles, 40 motor vehicles, four artillery guns, including three French-made CAESAR self-propelled artillery systems and one United States-made M777 howitzer, and two U.S.-made MLRS [multiple launch rocket systems], including one M142 HIMARS and one M270 MLRS,” the ministry said.
“Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the AFU losses amounted to more than 9,700 servicemen, 81 tanks, 39 infantry fighting vehicles, 70 armored personnel carriers, 576 armored fighting vehicles, 313 motor vehicles, 72 artillery guns, 22 MLRS launchers, including seven of HIMARS system and three of MLRS system, eight SAM [surface-to-air missile] launchers, two transport-loading vehicles, 17 electronic warfare stations, seven counter-battery radars, two air defense radars, eight units of engineering vehicles, including two counter obstacle vehicles and one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle,” it added.
In addition, Russian media shared several videos that showed some of the recent losses Kiev forces sustained in both Kursk and Sumy.
Kiev forces launched their surprise attack in Kursk on August 6, relying mainly on Western-made weapons and foreign mercenaries. The Russian military halted the attack within a few days. Nevertheless, a counter-attack is yet to be launched.
So far, at least 31 Russian civilians have been killed and more than 143 others have been wounded. Moreover, the attack displaced more than 144,000 civilians. The fate of some 2,000 others who lived in areas attacked by Kiev forces remain unknown.
