Macedonia deports hundreds of refugees to Greece

On Tuesday, Macedonia sent back hundreds of refugees to Greece a day after they entered into the country by finding a way through border fence.

According to a Macedonian official, 700 migrants were deported to Greece through the same location they entered.

It was reported by a western media outlet yesterday that around 1500 refugees left their refugee camp in the Greek village of Idomeni and  they crossed a river near the border to enter Macedonia after finding a way through border fence.

“As long as (refugees) still believe that there is a chance of getting through (to Macedonia), this will continue,” Immigration Minister Ioannis Mouzalas said. “There is no way the border will open.”

Macedonia already said that it would not allow the refugees to enter into the country, and it blocked the Balkan route north.

On the other hand Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras blamed  misleading leaflets distributed at Idomeni which encouraged the refugees on Monday to make push to north. The Idomeni refugee camp in Greece shelters more than 14000 refugees who fled the terror torn countries of Syria and Iraq.

However, hundreds of thousands of refugees from the Middle East and Africa come to Idomeni to seek asylum in central Europe. Although a border control started in Austria and expanded into the Balkan caused complete closure of the passage, it is estimated that 44,000 refugees are now in Greece waiting to enter into central Europe.
