On December 1, five people were injured by a pipe bomb explosion on an overpass at Istanbul’s Bayrampasa metro station. The incident halted some train operations and heightened security fears in the city.
Atilla Aydiner, the Mayor of the district where the blast happened said it had been caused by a bomb on an overpass near the station. Authorities suspended services on the city’s metro network following the blasts.
The blast at the Bayrampasa metro station came at the height of the evening rush hour, district Mayor said. Bayrampasa is a residential and industrial area on the European side of Istanbul.
