12 Fighters Killed, Dozens Missing After Failed Operation Against Taliban In Takhar Province

At least 12 pro-government fighters have been killed and dozens others are missing after a failed operation against the Taliban in the Afghan province of Takhar.

The clashes took place in the Baharak district after Taliban members captured it.

“Around 60 security force members were sent on an operation in Baharak district to clear the insurgents, but the bodies of 12 of them were wounded while 48 other security forces still missing,” TOLO News TV channel quoted its security source as saying.

Nonetheless, local authorities are yet to deny or confirm the aforementioned casualties. The situation on the frontline remains complicated and the Taliban seems to be gaining an upper hand in the conflict amid the reached ceasefire between the group and US frorces.

Meanwhile, in other parts of the country:

  • A SVBIED attack hit Afghan army positions in Shah Wali Kot district ;
  • Rocket attacks by Pakistan were reported on border areas of Kunar province. Former President, Hamid Karzai, strongly condemned rocket and artillery attacks by Pakistani Army;
  • At least five police officers were killed by a roadside bomb in the Kang district of Nimroz province;
  • Abdulhai Zazi, the district governor for Zazai Maidan of Khost province was killed in an Ambush in Altamour area of Logar province;
  • According to the Ministry of Defense, Afghan security forces have killed at least 25 Taliban militants in Helmand and Nimroz provinces.
