According to the First Deputy Minister of Information of the DPR Daniil Bessonov, more than 50 thousand Ukrainian soldiers have died since the beginning of the Russian special operation in Ukraine.
The deputy minister aided that most of the combat-ready units of Ukraine were destroyed or captured.
“According to my observations, from what gets into the network, if you add all this into the overall picture, they have more than 50 thousand dead – this is if you take the entire front line. Counting the wounded is usually one to three, one to four, that is, roughly speaking, more than 150 thousand may be wounded,” Bezsonov said in his interview.
The report of the DPR official are confirmed by the claims of Ukrainian servicemen. Sky News agency has recently published an interview with an Ukrainian officer who was deployed in the Severodonetsk area.

The commander of an elite unit of the Ukrainian Marine Corps, who gave his name as Olexander, said that most of his most trained soldiers were wounded or killed. The losses amounted to about 80% of the well-trained and battle-hardened fighters with whom he had been fighting side by side since 2018. According to him, heavy losses have a strong emotional and psychological impact on both other units and relatives of servicemen. Olexander admitted that he does not know how long the AFU would be able to bear such losses.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine are suffering heavy losses in manpower and military equipment during the battles with Russian, LPR and DPR troops. Russian military media are publishing more and more interviews with Ukrainian prisoners of war who served in the rear units, which confirms that the military command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is experiencing a shortage of manpower and uses untrained servicemen as cannon fodder on the front line.

I’m not so sure of the inflation, the fact is the majority of the killed and wounded are coming from mass barrages and whole brigades, and battalions are literally getting wiped out. If this was a primarily small unit, small arms engagement war, I’d agree with you. I don’t think that what the Ukrainians are facing is anything like what you or I have. I think it’s more of what the Iraqi’s faced during the gulf wars with whole divisions decimated by bombers, artillery and various other types of weapon’s platforms.
In that case there would be video footage of very large groups being obliterated: there are not. Soldiers are harder to kill than you think.

Sorry but that is nonsense. There are mainly small dispersed units on Ukrainian side. Russia seems to be using mainly obsolete artillery which requires hundreds of shells to score a single hit. There are no big concentrations of Ukrainian forces. They do very little attacking so no big numbers of troops needed. From this point of view it is easier to hit Russians who are attacking and need to concentrate forces. So regarding military losses I would expect them to be about the same.

Those precision missile strikes and artillery barrages could easily have taken thousands of lives that Ukraine couldn’t admit to. Nations at war always downplay their losses.
What’s telling to me is the commander of their elite forces admitting to losing 80% of the soldiers they had 120 days ago and then going into battle in a CAR. These are special forces … they would normally have the best equipment Ukraine has to offer and go into battle in IFV’s or helicopters. A shell lands anywhere near these guy and they’re all sliced and diced and when they get to the fight they have no heavy weapons to suppress the enemy with.
If this is the case with Ukraines elite forces what are the common grunts fighting with? The point is Ukraine is likely suffering far more casualties than they admit to. We’ll never know until the fightings over and even then it’ll be suppressed in the west due to embarrassment.

Based on numbers given by SF, I got to this conclusion a few days ago. It was reported that about 300 to 500 ukros were killed daily, so after 120 days, the total was 36.000 to 60.000, averaging a tad shorter than 50.000. In these days it looked like the number of ukros killed had risen to 650-780 which means something shy of 3000 in four days so 50.000 is a good starting point. I know they say wounded are usually 3 or 4 times higher but it must be said that when the number of the fallen is high, and a daily average of 400 is by no way a low number, the wounded can be something less than thrice. Indeed I counted 2,5 times which means about 125.000 for a total of 175.000. It sounds probably too much, because according to western medias, ukraine had about 250.000 men but we have to add paramilitary and “volunteers” and freshly recruited, so 350.000 men can be considered not impossible. And even ukraine minister said about half of the army was destroyed. The rise in the dead count can be due to newly recruited soldier sent to the front and, hopefully, this means that in not too long the government of ukraine will have to surrender, whatever the nazi warmongers from US and UK say. What surprises me is that ukrainian army hasn’t tried to revolt against the regime that is using them as human target for Russia without a logical reason.

I guess this might be quite reasonable dead toll when civilians included. Plenty of civilians and low skill soldiers are expected to die. I would expect about the same number of russian soldiers died. Most likely somewhat less as there are no civilians on Russian side involved. Even 150k wounded sounds reasonable. However, most will recover soon and will be recycled to fight. Anyway Ukraine has still plenty of soldiers to keep it going till winter when EU will force Ukraine to accept the truce. The key point is to weaken Russia which is going on very well. Also Donbas is mostly razed to the ground and will extract a lot of Russian resources in the future. Should give EU plenty time to kick start arms production and properly arm Ukraine. Especially heavy artillery is needed. I think the plan should be to get Ukraine on par with Russia in Artillery and Anti aircraft. Will take some time….

Russia might hit civilians by malfunction or shot down missile miss the target. Schools during the wars are out and used as army barracks. Shopping centers have concrete carparks that are used as fortified army storage.

One 152mm frag will kill the 10 solders near the explosion but potentially wound the 100 within 250 yards of it.
