The Afrin Liberation Forces (ALF) announced on June 12 that its units killed five Turkish-backed militants and injured four others in recent attacks.

In an official statement, the Kurdish guerilla group said the attacks took place between June 1 and 4 in the Turkish-occupied part of the northern Aleppo countryside.

“Our forces carried out a sniper attack targeting a mercenary of the Turkish occupation in al-Bab area, where he was killed instantly. At the same time, our forces carried out an offinsive operation targeting a checkpoint of the mercenaries, in which two mercenaries were killed.

Our forces carried out a sniper attack on a group of mercenaries of the Turkish occupation in the vicinity of Mare, one mercenary was killed.

Our forces carried out a special operation targeting one of the fortifications of the Turkish occupation’s mercenaries in the village of Basota village the district of Sherawa, where four mercenaries were wounded.

On June 4, Our forces carried out a sniper attack against a mercenary of the Turkish occupation in Mare’ area, where he was killed instantly,” the statement reads.

While the ALF operations inflict serious losses on Turkish-backed militants, the Turkish Armed Forces are rarely targeted by the Kurdish group. Turkish forces maintain a small presence on the frontline in northern Aleppo.

The ALF launches its attacks from a small area south of Afrin. The area is jointly controlled by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units and the Syrian Arab Army. The extent of support provided to the group by these sides is still unclear.
