On January 13, the Afrin Liberation Forces (ALF) released footage documenting some of its recent attacks on the Turkish military and its proxies in the northern countryside of Syria’s Aleppo.
The footage shows an attack on a Turkish military positon and an engineering vehicle near the town of al-Bab on December 28, another that targeted a Turkish base in the village of Kimar on January 3 and two attacks that targeted a base and Turkish-backed militants in the outskirts of al-Bab on January 10.
In addition, the ALF said that its fighter had repelled a large attack by Turkey’s proxies in the area of al-Shahbah on January 8.
According to the Kurdish guerilla group, five Turkish soldiers and policemen as well as ten militants were killed in the recent attacks.
The ALF emerged in 2018 after the occupation of the Kurdish-Syrian area of Afrin by the Turkish military and its proxies. The shadowy group is said to be a proxy of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which is directly backed by the United States.
In the last few months, the group stepped up its attacks on the Turkish military and its proxies in the northern Aleppo countryside in what appears to be a response to recent Turkish air and artillery strikes on SDF-held areas.
The ALF’s repeated attacks in the northern Aleppo countryside are the main reason why Turkey continues to threaten Syria with a new ground operation.
