Al-Qaeda, Turkish-Backed Militants Launch Large-Scale Attack In Northern Lattakia

Illustrative image

Radical militants launched early on November 1 a large-scale attack on Syrian military positions and civilian areas in the northern Lattakia countryside.

The surprise attack is reportedly being led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the former branch of al-Qaeda in Syria. Other factions of the terrorist group and elements of the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) are participating in the offensive.

Activists affiliated with HTS and other terrorist groups claimed that the militants managed to captured several villages and positions south of the town of Kabani.

HTS and its allies are yet to officially announce the attack or confirm the activists’ claims. However, pro-government sources confirmed that an attack is ongoing.

The northern Lattakia countryside is a prominent Alawite, Armenian region. In 2013, hundreds of civilians were killed or abducted during a similar attack by Turkish-backed factions. A year later, thousands, mostly Armenians, were displaced from the region as a result of another attack.

The new attack on the region coincides with a Turkish offensive on Kurdish-majority areas in northeast Syria. Radical SNA militants are leading the offensive, committing war crimes against civilians in the region.

Now SAA, you can finally launch the large-scale offensive in Northeastern Latakia!

Sasan Jamshidi

Nope russia is selling you to the turks soon

xTheWarrior22

They won’t.

JoeAlpha

Northern Latakia directly borders with Turkey. Terrorist reserves and logistics come from across the border, which is why taking this region takes so long. If SAA with the help of the RuAF can secure or close the border then this terrorist will be more easily defeated. Send drones to monitor terrorist crossing points and destroy them precisely.

grumpy_carpenter

They must be desperate to go on the offensive against a force that has total air superiority. At best they buy a little time by disrupting the SAA’s plans but at a very high cost.

Karen Bartlett

“‘Activists’ affilliated with HTS”? Why do you trust anything they say?

gustavo

Erdongan doble moral used against Russia. With the right hand Erdogan cooperates with Putin, with the left hand Erdogan tries to destroy Russia and Syria armies by supporting terrorists.

Sasan Jamshidi

This is while Russia is selling Syria to the filthy Turks!!!!

klove and light

Simon told u so….

Mike

Simon told that they just got beaten back: https://southfront.org/syrian-army-pushes-to-recapture-positions-seized-by-militants-in-northern-lattakia/ and that your post are full of shit there Israeli troll.

Concrete Mike

Shut thenfuck up simon how about that!

Concrete Mike

Good, come out of your hidey holes jihadi pigs, i wont bother reminding you that everytime you go on the offensive you end up flat on your face and end up losing more than you gained.

Mike

Typical militant’s blowing their wads in such offensive, just like they did in late spring in northern Hama and yet they got beaten and driven out of the are. Same thing is going to happen until Idlib is done with and when that is done you see the sudden disappearance of trolls like klove and light.

Icarus Tanović

Well, why dont you just fucking bomb the hell out of them, for change?

Tudor Miron

This one will end the same way as before – another disaster for rats. They come out of hiding and that leads to more dead rats.
