Ankara Not Going To Close Qatar Base Despite Saudi Ultimatum - Turkish Defense Minister

dailysabah.com

Turkey is not going to shut down its military base in Qatar despite a demand voiced by other Arab nations to Ankara’s ally, Turkish Defense Minister Fikri Isik told the NTV broadcaster on Friday.

“If there is such a demand, it will mean interference in bilateral ties,” the defense ministry said, adding that the base contributes to the security in the entire Gulf region. “Re-evaluating the base agreement with Qatar is not on our agenda.”

There are Turkish soldiers deployed in Qatar. The number is expected to reach 1,000, according to Turkish newspaper Hurriyet.

Earlier this week, the Arab states led by Saudi Arabia issued a list of demands, including cutting ties with Iran, shutting down Al-Jazeera and closing a Turkish military base.

Since when are the Saudis in position to issue ultimatums? Do they suffere from the same delusional disese infecting neocons and simple minds?

FlorianGeyer

Um, YES :)

Ma_Laoshi

Delusional or not depends on what they’re prepared to back it up with. I don’t think we’ve seen their hand yet. I enjoyed my time in Doha, but it didn’t look like those folks were cut out for what the Houthis are dishing out.

Jesus

What can the Saudis do, except exhale hot air. Saudis are used to an easy life, without much effort and and few accomplishments. Manipulating money for various agendas cannot replace a strong leadership and presence on a global scale.

Ma_Laoshi

What the Saudis can do depends “bigly” on what they and their cronies can persuade a clueless Trump to do. This is the hand we haven’t seen yet. But as always, given time we will. As long as there will be survivors at least.

Jesus

I do not think Trump is clueless as most people think, cannot rely on the media to clearly know what is going on within his inner circles. During his campaign he castigated the Saudis because of 9/11.

EL ZORRO

Remember that the pResident in the United States don’t run the foreign policy, that is under the CONTROL of the COUNCIL ON FOREIGN RELATIONS which maintain a close CONTROL of the State Department by infiltrated CFR MEMBERS.

Ma_Laoshi

Well there’s few people left who he hasn’t castigated, so it’s all mostly become random noise. But I know what you mean; still on the fence myself whether he’s actually a dummy. But come on: even before the election is was clear that he was the target of some kind of “D.C. Maidan” regime-change op. This is not being done by grandma’s like Sheryl Streep and Madonna; it’s being run professionally by (factions of) the intelligence agencies. What has he done about it other than fuming on Twitter?

He is STILL arguing with other celebrities about his TV ratings, STILL pimping his Washington D.C. hotel and golf resorts. Let’s face it, leading a superpower is a bit too much for him (like it would be for me).

Jesus

He was an anti establishment candidate, American people wanted complete change in Washington, so Trump got elected. Trump is trying to run the country like a business, there are many powerful groups that do not like his agenda, maybe except for his tax cuts. Wall Street and the army of billionaires making the NWO had their path defined with its obvious goal, only to find their plans sidelined with the election of Trump. The reason he flip flopped on his promises was to alleviate the pressure from these groups, however, as time goes on he will find countermeasures to del with them.

Ma_Laoshi

“he will find …” <- to you it's a prediction, for me it's an opinion

We *already* had the "change" candidate Obama. With so many of the great things he was going to do, he didn't even try, often discreetly lobbying against them. Then in 2012 it was "now that he is freed from re-election pressure you're going to see the true Obama". It sounded logical and I think it was correct: the true Obama was a neoliberal war hawk–always has been.

So far, I think we've yet to see a counterexample to "Personnel is Policy". With the people Trump put in charge–I mean who is even there that is not certified crazy? Tillerson probably/hopefully. Kushner–son of a jailbird; sorry if Trump says family matters I think this matters too. Mattis–Mad Dog, say no more. Flynn–corrupt and out. McMaster–notorious torturer. Do you see any chance that these folks are going to, pardon me, come to Jesus?

Jesus

I did not see Obama as a war hawk, he was very timid and covert in Middle East, however , he was a russaphobe, he was a pervert and opened the gates of perversion and social unrest within the American society. As far as those names you mentioned, they represent the swamp and the probable source of some leaks, they can be replaced. Trump is a bully, I think he is sizing up the situation and the people around him to determine who stays and who goes. Once this Russia collusion in election none sense subsides, and the democrats loose again in 2018, Trump will have some political capital to use towards his agenda. Clinton, Bush and Obama were representing special interests ad nauseam at the expense of the country, Trump campaigned with the slogan “America first” something he still maintains by annulling the Pacific trade agreement, and getting out of the climate change agreement.

zman

The TPP was virtually dead already(like the TTIP), Trump just pronounced it dead. Sorry, but Trump is supporting the very same special interests. Look to Israel, his masters, regardless of the MSM propaganda.Getting out of the climate agreement was another gift to his corporate buddies, even if it was a good thing. Trump is a CONMAN, he makes his way lying to people. If ‘they’ do keep looking, they will find collusion with Russians alright, the Russian mafia…and the US mafia..I still remember stories on him and the allegations from the 90s, when Russia was being raped. You are right about one thing though, he is a bully. But what happens when bullies are confronted? They fold. I predicted in Sept of 2015 that Trump would fold up like a cardboard box. I was right. That’s why he gave control of the military over to the military. Trump will not last 4 years, he does not have the stamina…or guts.

Jesus

I guess we see him from slightly different perspectives, time will tell.

zman

Don’t bet on it. Trump is basically a rascist chickenshit. I’ve followed his shit for years(like since the mid 80s) and he is a loud-mouthed conman. Trump said what he did during the election to get elected, same as Obama…then he screwed us, just like Obama did. ALL US politicians are liars. He could have put decent people in his administration, but what did he do? He did what all liars do, he doubled down on the thieves, spouting fake populist BS. What ‘promise’ has he not flipped on? Americans have to get over this messiah crap and get to work at the grass roots and rid themselves of traitors. Those tax cuts? Yeah, the wealthy welcome them, soon they’ll be just like Trump and pay no taxes at all.

zman

Trump is not stupid, but he is a puppet…and an asshole.

Jesus

I view him as a bully.

zman

That as well…but bullies tend to be chickshit when opposed. Trump did not have to deal with that as a corporate boss.

Ronald

The Saudis can hire Blackwater or thousands of troops and pilots themselves .

Jesus

Yes they can do that, what happens to countries that rely on mercenary forces for their own protection?

Overwatch D.VA

Read up “Mercenary War” or “Truceless War” , a piece of history when a massive force of mercenaries abandoned and unpaid turned on it’s former master and plunged the whole country into chaos.l

Jesus

In my post I was going to elaborate about the Italian city states during medieval ages that hired mercenary armies to fight each other, it turned out to be a laughing fiasco because the mercenaries knew each other, they were of the same trade, and when it came to fight with each other, they put on a charade, fighting armies on the field produced only two or three dead, the mercenaries determining who the winnner was.

Ma_Laoshi

LOL that’s a game Americans can understand. What do they call it again, WWF?

zman

Kinda like the FSA and IS.

Overwatch D.VA

lol yeah i remember reading about that era’s mess.. though punic war’s mercenary conflict is one of the worst i ever read..

Jesus

Yes, before Hannibal Carthage relied on mercenaries within their armed forces.

Overwatch D.VA

i think even at hannibal time they still use mercs , since the carthagenian citizens are relatively richer than the rest of the region’s people.

one of the merc from numidia changed sides during conflict and he prefer Scipio over hannibal.. a zcavalry commander who supplement rome’s lack of cavalry

Jesus

Hanibal’s army before he crossed Elbrus river in Spain, consisted of mostly African heavy infantry, along with the cavalry + elephants and Iberian recruits. As he entered Gaul and headed towards N. Italy a lot of the local tribes provided recruits to replenish his ranks as they got decimated by the cold winter as they crossed the Alps mountains. Throughout his stay in the Italic peninsula for almost 18 years, he always managed to find recruits, albeit his strength was not sufficient to del a mortal blow to Rome. His repeated requests to Carthage for additional troops and reinforcements went unheeded by Carthaginian leaders due to envy, eventually his brother gathered an army and planned on a rendezvou with Hannibal, only to be intercepted by Romans and defeated, killing his brother.

Overwatch D.VA

haha thats what politics all about.. the foolishness of carthagenian politicians.. and yes the reinforcement was destroyed by nero and hannibal brother’s head was thrown into hannibal camp.. thats when hannibal knew all is lost.. meanwhile scipio rampaging in iberia unchecked

Solomon Krupacek

blackwater does not exists for long years.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

They renamed themselves several times since but are still lead by the same people nothing much changed there . The mind of the Minister of Defense in Saudi Arabia is trying to stage a coup for power in the region and keep everyone at odds until its too late and have the US bring them to heel under Saudi Arabia even Jordan .

Solomon Krupacek

yes, renamed and are no more blackwaters. and do not cooperate with saudis.

zman

You are so full of shit.

Solomon Krupacek

my colon sure. :DDDD

and check almasdarnews, 1 year ago also they wrote the same as i here :P

zman

The name has changed, the crimes have not. Changing their name does not mean they do not exist…but you already know that, don’t you?

zman

They already have. It’s called ISIS, Al Qaeda.

Thegr8rambino

i heard they even tried to get pakistan to fight in yemen but they basically told them to fuck off by saying their parliament wouldnt allow it lmao

javier

yes

FlorianGeyer

The Saudi’s , Americans and all too many in Europe are bought up thinking that they are very clever ( or Smart as Trump likes to say) and amazing. I had a girlfriend like that once and she left a trail of chaos behind her and still does apparently ! I was dumb to get involved in the first place but smart to let go :)

It is marvellous to watch the US Coalition all pulling each others hair out and having tantrums.

Thegr8rambino

they feel they can say almost anything now that trump and israel are supporting them, but its just that – talk! the new prince is an idiot, militarily, lol

zman

Don’t say that! Look at his victorious strategy playing out in Yemen…If he only had help from the US, Israel, UAE, and some African Nations, he would already have won against the technologically advanced and massive Yemeni army. It’s also good that he has (supposedly?) patriot missiles so they can’t possibly attack Riyadh or KSA proper. Seriously, I could tell you some good stories about the Royal Saudi AirForce that I heard from my dad. He worked there during the Peace Sun II agreement with the US when we sold them F-15s.

Thegr8rambino

lol victorious? i hope ur being sarcastic :))) please tell me the stories :)))

zman

Sarcastic? Yes, I hoped it was obvious (you should know me by now). Stories…Hmmm…like the one where the Saudis run into airstrip equipment, hangers or each other…with their planes. Or maybe that their ‘training’ was a joke because an infidel cannot teach a Saudi anything, they may only show them. Possibly the one where a Saudi prince who was certified to fly couldn’t, because he hired a surrogate to learn for him. Then there was the Saudi prince who came to the US to train and sent a surrogate instead…and he went to Colorado skiing and drinking. My favorite was the one when all the contractors were going on company holiday to Europe and a Saudi on the plane got drunk soon after take-off and stayed drunk . When he fell down in the aisle, as he crawled to the john everyone kicked him in the ass as he went by. I wish I could remember them all, they were funny as hell. Suffice it to say I doubt there are anyone but mercenaries…or maybe a surrogate or two, flying their planes.

Thegr8rambino

Oh okay good Hahahaha thank you! they are so goddamn lazy to do anything and think they can fight Iran and Yemen and win

Ma_Laoshi

Is this even serious? Are Qataris taking obvious defensive steps like mining the border region? If Turkey and the Saudis really were to have a go at each other, Christmas would come early this year.

John Brown

Turkey better rush in thousands more troops tanks planes etc.into Qatar ASAP to preempt any Saudi / Israeli attack or coup attempt.

zman

It’s really not that urgent. There is no real force there that the Turks that are there could not deal with in the short term. The Saudis only fight defenceless opponents and their mercenary force could probably be bought. Now if the US turned on them, that would be a different story. The US would get to keep their base and KSA and UAE would have the natural gas. I suspect that the Turks increasing their troop size has more to do with deterring the US, a NATO partner. 2 NATO partners fighting would probably destroy NATO or at least put doubt in the minds of the the other NATO partners…still not a good thing. Almost sounds like a Putin move. If the Sauds are publicly seen enlisting the Israelis to kill Muslims, as has been suggested, then all bets are off and the Saud family will have to flee. The people absolutely hate them.

John Brown

How is NATO a good thing today? Please explain it to us all.

zman

When you tell me how you think I believe NATO is a good thing, I will. US/Turkey fight would not be a good thing FOR NATO and long as the US says no, there will be no attack on Qatar. FARS says there was already a coup attempt, but that it was scuttled by the US Navy who were on maneuvers with the Qatar Navy. The number of Turks there vary with who you’re reading from too. Qatar said 200, another says @90(+25)..but before the instigations, Turkey was talking about 600…the base can accommodate 5,000. The UAE is the one to watch, but I suspect the US would squelch them too.

John Brown

Hey Zman brain cramp? Saying “US/Turkey fight would not be a good thing FOR NATO” does not explain why the NATO pact is a good thing in your opinion. You say what is good for the NATO pact not what good is the NATO pact at all. If you can’t answer then that is an answer, the NATO pact is very bad for the entire world and all the conquered slave states who make up its its members as well. I think its great that the Turks are sending troops to Qatar, they need to send at least 5,000 or more ASAP. Down with the racist supremacist genocidal Jewish empire!

Ma_Laoshi

“If the Saudis are publicly seen …” <- and that too-good-to-be-true factor is why I'm calling fake news on it. Didn't it originate with Fars?

Stephen

The Saudi’s Salman’s majority demands and actions are actually the Ezraheli’s Badanyahu’s demands and actions.

Ronald

Fars News has a piece on the Qatari coup , that almost happened just after the blockade was imposed . It claims the coup was countered by the Americans doing a joint exercise with the Qatari army .

However , with these fresh demands , and Israel sending the Saudis 35 jets , they might well have a fresh plan .

George King

Actually it is 18 deployed fighter jets to prevent a coup but if war breaks out Iran has just demonstrated its missile abilities and could destroy any facilities in SA, including Israel jets or not. The US has shown its destructive internal warring factions to be at odds and has even attacked their own proxies. Power struggle between Israel and Americans for control of American forces and Intelligence Agencies paints the true nature and exposes the death throes for all to see.

Ronald

“Power struggle between Israel and Americans for control of American forces and Intelligence Agencies ” , sounds like a dream come true . However knowing the consistent focus America has on “regime change” of Iran , my guess is more logistical staging for an attack on them . UAE or Bahrain , has the (renamed) Blackwater as their defense contractor , they are equipped with a surprising number of jets and ships . Turkey made a big fuss about backing Qatar , and sent twenty odd troops , but only had eighty eight there , so now they are at , just over one hundred . The Saudi’s / Israel , Blackwater , and US together are formidable air force . Iran should be on high alert . Qatar royals might quietly fly across the Gulf of Persia , while they still can .

Thegr8rambino

iran has S-300 and their own homemade bavar SAM system that is even better than S-300 i heard

Ma_Laoshi

That is I guess why they’ve endlessly been begging Russia for the real deal? Even short-range, tactical air defenses, combined with a willingness to pull the trigger, would’ve made a real difference in several theaters of the Syrian war.

I mostly respect Iran, and wish them well. But the Syrian conflict was a chance for them to show the kind of steel, the sort of capabilities that would deter US aggression against their own country. The world has seen nothing of the sort; at least Hezbollah emerge from this trial by fire as capable soldiers. On the top shelf it’s all Russian kit, and it’s a fact of life that the Kremlin has its own equations with Israel and the West to think of so they never go 100%.

Thegr8rambino

maybe iran is saving its real cards for when it gets really serious :)))

Ronald

I am sure they are . Hope they are not serious . Ma Laoshi referred to the movie Kill Bill , at one point a Chinese master training her said , “you tremble at that piece of wood , but that piece of wood should be trembling at you “. The forces of darkness at times think they are strong and insurmountable , but the Light defeats them in a moment .

Thegr8rambino

I love it thank you :)))

Ma_Laoshi

Fortunately, the Iranians seem mostly sane–won’t go further for what’s still a theocracy (though ordinary Iranians are wonderful people). Sane people do not desire war upon their own country; so do you want to deter it now or fight it later?

And they better get their AA up pronto: Tillerson has already pulled his gun. These are very dangerous people who are NOT joking around. Take a hard look at Syrian technological weakness side-by-side with Russian political weakness to see what’s NOT working if the Dark Throne is coming to get you.

Thegr8rambino

lol dont be so scared, im not, they know full well if they fuck with iran, the whole middle east will ignite along with US forces and bases in the region

Ma_Laoshi

Yeah their offensive rocketry seems sounder than the defensive stuff. Static vs moving target and all that. My point is that I’m NOT assuming sanity on the other side. We don’t tend to think of Uncle Saddam and Gadhafi as boy scouts, but in the end they assumed that there were certain lines the US just wouldn’t cross. Of course, they paid with their necks, and much worse with their countries. I estimate Russia to be in serious danger, let alone Iran, because the Empire emerges out of the Syria gig with its impunity intact, and the conviction that there are no limits after all. I may be wrong in this.

Thegr8rambino

doesn’t look like the empire/israhell will be the winners in Syria anyway so…

Ma_Laoshi

Sorry to be a broken record but I think “win” is asymmetric. If they can get whole cities turned into rubble, at no greater price to themselves than cheap taxpayer money (or just debt), they communicate “We can and WILL do this to you as well if you step out of line.” That’s power folks, and Russia is handing it to them on a silver platter. Sometimes I wonder if the Kremlin is OK with doing it all over again in Iran or say Venezuela.

Thegr8rambino

Which whole cities have they turned into rubble? And how is Russia giving them this power if its the taxpayers and debt funding it?

Ma_Laoshi

I think all of Syria’s major cities have suffered catastrophic damage by now, which we couldn’t imagine or endure in our own places of residence. If you find some intact buildings and say that “turned into rubble” went too far, then you are an optimist, which the world badly needs at this moment.

Now every faction is responsible for what THEY do, Russia is not my boogeyman for making a limited effort. But it’s a centerpiece of their policy that US/IL just WON’T face consequences, not even embarrassment. I think in this way, Russia is only further building up American impunity, which is in fact their key weapon besides the dollar. Not everyone agrees with me on this.

Thegr8rambino

Syria can always be rebuilt and will be. Stop with your pessimistic nonsense already!

zman

If you are strictly referring to AA type systems, you’re mostly correct, however the Iranians are also building their own versions…with modifications. They have also bought silkworms, sunburns and newer systems from China and Russia. What they need to get on with is their QW-1M manpad in Syria. The medium range ICBMs fired into Syria were home built Iranian missiles. http://en.farsnews.com/newstext.aspx?nn=13960402000629 They also have built at least 3 underground missile factories for their new missiles. http://en.farsnews.com/newstext.aspx?nn=13960304001036

I’m sure Israel got the message.

Ma_Laoshi

“Well there weren’t really eighty eight of them.” “Then why did they call themselves the Crazy Eighty Eight?” “The probably thought it sounded cool.”

Ronald

Love Uma , as well !! But really , if You were the royals , and in their situation , would you not feel insulted , a hundred men , what a joke . Five thousand , with the Crazy Eighty Eight as in close palace guards , that would be Respect . Less , and it is time to make good friends with Iran , or Russia real fast .

Ma_Laoshi

It’s after-dinner slacking here. If we stay in pop-culture territory: the Krogan measured your worth not only by your enemies, but foremost by whom you could inspire to fight at your side. If the Emirs could get five thousand of their *own* citizens to stand ready to fight for their country–now that would be strength, hence respect. As of now, no Arab country has demonstrated the internal cohesion to match Israel and perhaps Iran I think.

Russians… if you really want to see what they’re made of, try fighting them in their own country. On second thought, maybe don’t, and just for that reason. In Syria they’re more good than most (incl. humanitarian + reconciliation), but they just won’t fight anyone except the scum that’s most easily replaced. NOT something to bet your neck on.

And did any outlet even report that the Shadow Broker hacking collective is named after Ass Effect as well?

Ronald

Arabs are tribal , and seem to have a hard time being united on a larger scale , with notable exceptions . Israel and Iran are both Caucasian and are adept at organizing on a larger scale , and both are literally ,” surrounded” by less than friendly neighbors . Whats this about the Shadow Broker collective “name” ?

Ma_Laoshi

In the Mass Effect series, there was an information trader named the Shadow Broker. The people leaking those NSA hacking tools obviously named themselves after that. There were so many cliche’d scenes “Trillions of lives are hanging in the balance, we’re running out of time” but in practice, there was always opportunity for some quality time in the Captain’s Cabin with various sexy alien species. That’s why I call it Ass Effect.

The Krogan were a race of bipedal bull-rhinoceroses if that conveys an image (look it up); given that they were 400kg or so, others were cautious about intimacy with them.

zman

Yep, rabid dogs WILL turn on each other.

Michael Drysdale

more war perhaps is coming to saudis and co

ej063

f**k you Turkey … your turn will come very soon already started actually … Kurds will destroy turkey soon take their lands back and we will see what a useless scared shitless Turkish army you have.
