On September 3 morning, Palestinian gunmen attacked a bus carrying Israeli soldiers on a major highway in the Jordan Valley.
The gunmen opened fire at the bus near the settlement of Hamra, wounding six soldiers and the civilian driver. A soldier in serious condition and the bus driver, who both received gunshot wounds, were taken by helicopter to Rambam Hospital in Haifa city. The other five soldiers were hurt by glass fragments.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and the Police said the gunmen fled the scene, but two suspects were arrested shortly after by Israeli soldiers and police officers. The suspects, both said to be hurt, were taken to be questioned by the Shin Bet security agency.

A third suspect was reportedly able to flee. The IDF said that its troops are currently searching the area for additional suspects.
The gunmen’s getaway vehicle caught fire during their escape, possibly from flammable liquid they attempted to pour on the bus during the attack.
In his first comment on the attack, Israel’s Defense Minister Benny Gantz vowed to increase operations in the occupied West Bank.
This was not the first such attack. Last month, shots were fired at an Israeli bus traveling along Route 60 near the Ofra settlement in the West Bank. The bus, which was filled at the time, was hit. However, there were no casualties.
Palestinian gunmen in Jerusalem and the West Bank escalated their attacks following Israel’s Operation Breaking Down, which targeted the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) in the Gaza Strip early on in August. Tel Aviv’s security and military solutions are clearly failing.
