Iranian-backed militia Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq, that is part of the Popular Mobilization Forces, announced the general mobilization. It demanded the release of one of its leaders, who was arrested by the Iraqi intelligence Service for attacking the “Green zone” in Baghdad.
The attack on Baghdad took place on December 20. US forces deployed in the area activated their C-RAM (Counter rocket, artillery, and mortar) systems to intercept multiple rockets that were launched on the Green Zone. Nonetheless, at least a part of them fell in the area.

After the claims of Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq, fighters from insurgent faction Quwaat al-Zulfiqar have reportedly been deployed in Baghdad and Asaib Ahl al-Haq special forces personnel have taken positions in the Al-Rusafa area of eastern Baghdad.

US has created a mess in Iraq and needs to get out or it will be hit hard. The Iraqis are fed up of a brutal occupation that has impoverished them.
This is just a precautionary move in the dying days of Trump, mainly to dissuade US from any adventurism. General Ghaani and a large team of Iranian officers has been in Iraq and Syria for a few days now shoring up defensive preparations to give the US a bloody nose, if Trump plays the sore loser card. The irony is that the Iraqi PMU as seen in photos are totally armed with US weapons that have now been turned on their tormentors and savage NATO occupation forces. Iran would love for the US to get bogged down in a long term sapping asymmetrical war that will burn the region. Hopefully, the grown ups in the battered US military are wiser than the dotard Trump. Only the Jews want a US swan song war at this late stage.

These militias seem more and more concerned that a U.S attack is coming. I don’t think this move is solely to deter a U.S strike. I keep asking myself why America will move diplomats out of Iraq and talk of shutting down the embassy. It appears that the U.S and Iraq’s legitimate military are on the same side, especially Iraq’s counter terrorism forces. So actually, the U.S will not be fighting Iraq entirely. They’ll be on the government’s side.
