On March 17, the al-Quds Brigade, a Palestinian pro-Damascus armed group, announced that five of its fighters were killed in Syria’s central region.

In a statement, the group said that the fighters lost their lives during a combing operation in the area of al-Sutayhah in al-Amour mountain chain. The fighters were identified as Alaa Hassan al-Mustafa, Bashar Muhammed Kadri, Mustafa Youssef al-Khaled, Abdul Qadir Agha and Ahmed Mohamed Okla.

Syrian activists alleged that the fighters were ambushed by ISIS cells. Nevertheless, the terrorist group is yet to claim responsibility.

In a related development, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that a new wave of airstrikes had hit central Syria.

The airstrikes, which targeted hideouts of ISIS cells in the Hama-Aleppo-Raqqa triangle, were carried out by Syrian warplanes that took off from al-Seen Air Base in Damascus’ eastern countryside and Russian warplanes that took off from Hmeimim Air Base in the southern countryside of Lattakia.

ISIS cells in central Syria stepped up their attacks recently. According to the SOHR, the terrorists’ attacks have claimed the lives of 24 pro-government fighters and wounded 29 others since the beginning of March.

Syrian government forces and their allies will likely respond to ISIS’s recent attacks by intensifying their operations in the central region, especially in the eastern Homs countryside.
