Central Syria: Russian Airstrikes Killed Five ISIS Terrorists, Wounded Four Others

Five terrorists of ISIS were killed and four others were wounded in a new wave of Russian airstrikes that targeted the terrorist group’s areas of influence in Syria’s central region, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on September 28.

According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces carried out more than 20 airstrikes on the central region in the past 48 hours.

The airstrikes hit hideouts of ISIS cells in the outskirts of the town of Resafa in the southern Raqqa countryside as well as in the Hama-Aleppo Raqqa triangle.

This was the third wave of Russian airstrikes to hit terrorists in central Syria this month. The first wave of airstrikes was on September 14, while the second took place on September 24. Both waves targeted hideouts in the outskirts of Resafa, where ISIS cells have been very active.

ISIS’s most recent attack in central Syria took place in the eastern Hama countryside on September 22. During the attack, the terrorist group’s cells targeted a military truck near the town of al-San with a roadside bomb. Three soldiers of the elite 25^th Special Mission Forces Division were killed as a result of the attack.

While ISIS is still active in the central region, there is no denying that the recent Syrian and Russian operations inflicted heavy losses on the terrorist group. According to the SOHR, the new five casualties brought to 145 the number of terrorists killed in the region since the start of the year.
