The clashes on the Lebanese-Israeli border heated up on September 21, with both Hezbollah and the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) exchanging intense strikes.
In separate statements, Hezbollah announced that its fighters had shelled the several key sites of the IDF with rockets and artillery.
The targeted sites were the main base for the air and missile defense of the Northern Command in the Birya barracks; the deployment area of the 631st Reconnaissance Battalion of the Golani Brigade in the Ramot Naftali barracks; the headquarters of the Al-Sahl Battalion in the Beit Hillel barracks; the headquarters of the air and missile defense in the Kela barracks; the deployment area of the 300th Brigade of the 146th Division in the Admit barracks; the headquarters of the Golan 210th Division in the Nafah base; the new headquarters of the Galilee Division in the Ayelet Hashahar area; the Zariyet barracks and the site of Jal Al-Alam
The attacks were carried out in support of the Palestinian people and resistance in the Gaza Strip as well as in response to recent Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon, Hezbollah noted in its statements.
The IDF confirmed that some 100 rockets were launched from Lebanon into the Galilee region and the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, with many being intercepted by air defenses. The military said that the shelling didn’t result in any casualties. However, material losses and fires were reported by Hebrew media.
Hezbollah’s rocket barrages coincided with a violent wave of Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon and the eastern Bekaa region.
In a brief statement, the IDF said that the strikes targeted more than 180 targets of Hezbollah, including “thousands of rocket launch barrels primed for imminent attacks on Israel.”
Lebanese media said that the strikes targeted mountainous areas, valleys and forested areas in the towns of al-Rayhan, al-Mahmoudiya, Zifta, Rumin, al-Numayriyya and the area between the towns of Ansar and Al-Zarariyya in southern Lebanon, in addition to the course of the al-Khardali River and the heights surrounding the towns of Labaya and Sahmar in the western part of Bekaa. No casualties have been reported yet.
Hezbollah and its allies in Lebanon have been launching attacks against the IDF in support of Gaza since the outbreak of the Israeli war on the Strip last October.
The clashes on the border escalated over the past week with a series of Israeli sabotage attacks and targeted strikes claiming the lives of more than 70 people in Lebanon, including senior military commanders of Hezbollah.
So far, the clashes have resulted in 26 civilian deaths in Israel and the occupied Syrian Golan Heights as well as the deaths of at least 22 soldiers and security officers. On the Lebanese side, more than 900 people have been killed, including 498 fighters of Hezbollah and over 150 civilians.
